Burgoyne, Benjamin - On Wednesday, Aug. 30th, (1916) there passed to the great beyond one <strong>of</strong><br />

New Ross' noblest citizens, Benjamin Burgoyne aged 94 years and 5 months. He was born at<br />

Mahone Bay, April 1st, 1822, and came to New Ross with his parents when only 7 years <strong>of</strong> age.<br />

He spent the rest <strong>of</strong> his life there a tiller <strong>of</strong> the soil. He married Miss Mary Ann Aalders, who was<br />

younger than he, but whose birthday was also April 1st, and together they have raised a family <strong>of</strong> 3<br />

sons and 7 daughters, Walter S. living in Windsor; Edgar N. on the homestead; Wellesley and<br />

Mary, who passed before; Agnes, Mrs. Ephraim R. Hiltz, <strong>of</strong> Kingsport; Adelaide, the widow <strong>of</strong> the<br />

late G. Thomas Hillman, <strong>of</strong> Halifax; Esther E. wife <strong>of</strong> Milledge Young, Mahone Bay; Mary E., wife <strong>of</strong><br />

Harry Kaulbach, <strong>of</strong> Conquerall Mills; Emily E. wife <strong>of</strong> George E. Hatchard,Aaldersville, and Eva, at<br />

home, who with her mother has been his untiring attendant during the three years <strong>of</strong> his<br />

feebleness, paralysis. Aaldersville, named for his father-in-law Peter Aalders (one <strong>of</strong> the soldier<br />

pioneers), has much to thank the family <strong>of</strong> the deceased for it's improvement, particularly in the<br />

erection <strong>of</strong> the beautiful chapel <strong>of</strong> St. James in which the funeral service was held where the final<br />

resting place received his remains at the Parish Church Cemetery, at Charring Cross.<br />

<strong>of</strong> England, Kentville, Kings, Nova Scotia, Canada 1 . He was born on 09 Aug 1865 in<br />

Church Street, Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada 1 . He died on 16 Jan 1942 in<br />

Aaldersville, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada 1 .<br />

From his obituary: A prominent general merchant and farmer <strong>of</strong> Aaldersville,<br />

Lunenburg County died at his home in that community last night, following an illness<br />

extending over the last six months. He took a prominent part in all community<br />

affairs and for many years was a member <strong>of</strong> the executive <strong>of</strong> Kings County<br />

Conservation Association.<br />
