T
are several hybrids on the market,
but none offer as many choices as
the Prius family does. The original
Prius blends compact size with
hatchback practicality, while the Prius v crossover
accommodates everything an active family
needs. And for 2018, the Prius c subcompact
receives some exciting new updates to further
enhance its truly fun-to-drive personality.
Newly-styled front and rear fascias, along
with new headlamp and taillight designs, give
the Prius c an aerodynamic, windswept look.
Inside, there’s a freshly-designed instrument
panel and steering wheel, and new climate
control switchgear. Most importantly, all Prius c
models now include a backup camera for
additional safety and peace of mind.
Like its larger siblings, the Prius c incorporates
a legendary combination of battery power and
impressive fuel economy.
It broadcasts its sporty nature with its new
sharp styling, well-planted stance, and short rear
overhang. The hatch reveals a wide rear opening
for easy cargo loading, while the rear seat folds
flat to provide even more space.
You can stow as many as four golf bags for
your summer down time, while in winter, the
Prius c accommodates a stack of snowboards
to hit the slopes.
The Prius c accommodates up to five
occupants, with impressive headroom and
legroom in every seating position.
The cabin styling matches the “urban-aware”
exterior design, with quality materials and
meticulous fit-and-finish.
Every Prius c comes standard with such
features as air conditioning with automatic
temperature control, multi-information display,
outside temperature gauge, 12-volt power outlet,
power windows with driver’s auto up/down
function, and tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel
with integrated audio and climate controls.
As well, keyless entry, heated mirrors, and a
rear wiper/washer are included on every model.
Trim levels are the Prius c, with an
available Upgrade Package, and the top-line
Prius c Technology.
All use a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine mated
to Toyota’s proven hybrid system, along with an
automatic Continuously Variable Transmission
(CVT). The system seamlessly and automatically
switches between gasoline, electricity, or a
combination of the two as needed, and uses
regenerative braking on deceleration to capture
kinetic energy and store it as electricity.
There’s no need to plug it in, and with combined
city/highway fuel efficiency of 5.1 L/100 km, you
also won’t have to stop too often at gas stations.
Beyond its fuel-saving nature, the Prius c is
simply fun to pilot, with precise steering and
sharp handling.
Still, there’s never a divide between driving
excitement and safety. Every Prius c comes with
Toyota Safety Sense C (TSS C), which includes
a Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert,
and Automatic High Beam headlights, along
with the Star Safety System which includes
Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control,
Anti-Lock Brake System with Electronic Brake
Force Distribution, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop.
Every Prius c also includes nine airbags,
driver and front passenger Advanced
Whiplash-Injury Lessening seats, and a
tire pressure monitoring system.
Fun, frugal, and with plenty of flair, the
Prius c rounds out the Prius family with all
the benefits of hybrid technology in a sporty,
subcompact package.
