Interactive LCD Displays: Replacing traditional printed
labels with updatable LCD displays
Concept:
Most traditional labels for objects in exhibitions are
printed descriptions that present the visitor with the
basic fundamental information. Digitalised labels in
the form of touch-screen LCD displays could allow
Cultural Archives to update the descriptions in a quick
and simple way. If an institution plans to move the
exhibitions around or wants to change any information
it would be very easy to update the labels. The LCD
displays could be interactive, providing the Cultural
Archive with an opportunity to have more additional
information on objects available. The visitors could
simply press on hyperlinks or an arrow to access further
information. This concept would also be beneficial
to those who are visual impaired as there could be
a button that enlarges and decreases the text size.
Tourists could also change the language of the text
for translation. Archives could receive data from the
touchscreen displays to enhance visitor analytics e.g.
how many people touched the display and what links
they were interested in.
