PROPOSAL 8: Snapchat Spectacles
Snapchat Spectacles:
Connected sunglasses
that record users
adventures, journeys
and memories.
Concept:
The user simply presses the button on the top left-hand
corner of the glasses to start recording their adventure,
journey or memory. The glasses record the footage in
a circular format to represent the perception of human
eyes. The user syncs the glasses to their snapchat,
using Bluetooth, and the recordings automatically
upload to their personal Snapchat account so they can
instantly share or save them to their memories.
Curators, artists and other Cultural Archive employees
could “takeover” the Snapchat and Instagram account
using the Spectacles to create stories that share
`behind the scenes’ footage and `sneak peak’ tours
of the collections, object handling sessions or simply
share their favourite displays with their audience. Social
media `takeovers’ are often found on Instagram and
Snapchat. This is where a brand or company gives an
individual permission to “takeover” their social media
account and to create stories from their own personal
perspective. Visitors could be given access, through
these Snapchat stories, to areas of the Cultural Archive
that would usually be closed off, such as Conservation
Centres. The circular format of the footage will allow the
audience to view the content from the curators, artists
or employees perception.
