12 | April 26, 2018 | The wilmette beacon news wilmettebeacon.com Wilmette dance company continues successful year with awards Alexa Burnell Freelance Reporter The Studio North Academy of the Performing Arts (SNAP) Senior Dance Company in Wilmette has enjoyed their most successful year, earning several first-place overall awards at recent competitions. While owner Pamela Sue Fox is certainly pleased with the results, she says it is her students’ dedication to training and love for dance that deserves the most recognition. “Our focus here at SNAP is to provide a pre-professional experience, focusing on artistry and technique, while helping to develop a well-rounded young adult,” she said. “Competitions are just one part of our what we do and something I keep in check. The dance world EVANSTON’S has become very focused on competitions over the years; I feel an appropriate balance will offer our students the benefits of competitions, without becoming all consumed by them either.” Olivia Rogers, 18, a senior at New Trier, has danced at SNAP since the seventh grade. She credits her fellow dancers’ dedication to training as the reason the company had such a successful year. “We work really hard all year long, so when it comes to performances or competition time, we are already very prepared, and can focus on fine-tuning our numbers,” she said. “We dance in small groups, breaking each step down; we dance in front of larger groups, gaining each other’s feedback and to become comfortable performing in front of a crowd. Really, we are a very close-knit group, and everyone wants to do their best and bring out the best in each other.” Amy Boyle, 17, a NT senior, said that rehearsals for winter competitions and performances often start in the summer, giving ample time to perfect a routine.
