The salient features of this system
were elaborated in last year's Annual
Report. The project is presently in the
implementation stages and will be
completed shortly. However we must
mention that the network security
project is of a dynamic nature,
needing constant monitoring with
quick design/configuration changes
based on the various monitored
parameters and intrusion detections.
The network security programme is a
never ending challenge - a police
and robber game!
18.1C ADVANCED
IN�ORMATION
TECHNOLOGY
CENTRE
The Advanced Information
Technology Centre (AITC), set up at
CSSD under the CTD/USAID
programme for software
development and training
programmes has progressed very well
during 2002-2003.
SO�TWARE DEVELOPMENT
The following are the software
packages developed by CSS Division.
● IPR – management and mode of
protection
This package is an intranet application
tool for use by scientists. The package
provides step by step guidelines for
drafting and filing of patents, designs,
trademarks and copyrights. It also
provides a questionnaire to determine
whether the item is patentable.
● Meta power search and automated
downloading of web pages
This package accepts any keyword as
input and uses several search engines
(maximum of 8) concurrently for the
search. The results of the concurrent
search are displayed in the form of
links with check boxes. Web pages of
all the checked links can be saved,
displayed or printed. The advantage
of this package is a faster response
compared to the conventional method
of downloading web pages
sequentially from various search
engines. This package is available
on the intranet as well as the web
server.
● Office workflow automation
This is a workflow automation
package for typical day-to-day
workflows in an office environment
namely leave application, requisition
form, etc. starting from the source all
the way up to the final sanctioning
authority including the intermediate
hops. The salient features at each
hop are: access based login,
authentication, hierarchy, mail box
facility and help.

evaluation package that provides all
details of projects: management,
financial, technical and status of
projects. Reports on the above details
can also be generated.
CSSD has also developed a number

As part of the continuing education
programmes for human resource
development, CSSD continues to
conduct courses on computer basics
and networks for the staff of NAL in
batches of 45-50 participants.

CSS Division also provides
consultancy to Central and State
Government departments in the
recruitment and assessment
