Alghero
Day 1: London – Olbia, Sardinia
We fly from London to Olbia in Sardinia and
meet our coach for the transfer to our hotel,
where we spend the next two nights.
Day 2: La Maddalena & the Emerald Coast
This morning we are taken by coach to the
port of Palau and board a ferry for the short
crossing to La Maddalena. This little island is
renowned for its beautiful beaches and is also
home to some ancient fortifications. We enjoy a
panoramic tour of the island before returning to
Palau for a scenic tour of the Emerald Coast.
Day 3: Little Green Train & Sassari
Today we join the Little Green Train (Trenino
Verde), which takes us through the stunning
scenery of northern Sardinia on a journey
through valleys and wide open landscapes,
climbing over rolling hills and viaducts, through
tunnels, and past mountains and forests. The
train takes us to Nulvi, where we stop for our
included lunch. We then travel by coach to the
Sassari region, our base for the next two nights.
Day 4: Sassari – Alghero
Enjoy a morning at leisure in Sassari before
joining our included visit to Alghero Town in
the afternoon. One of Sardinia’s most beautiful
medieval cities, Alghero is the main resort in the
northwest. You will have time to discover its
picturesque historic centre where you can enjoy
a drink at one of the many bars and cafés, or take
a walk along its cobbled lanes and admire views
of the marina with its yachts and its long, sandy
beaches beyond.
Day 5: Little Green Train, Bosa to Macomer
We leave the Coral Coast behind and travel
south by coach to Bosa, a little town at the
mouth of the river Temo. After some free time
to explore we join the Little Green Train for our
next journey from Bosa to Macomer. This is an
incredibly scenic route which winds through
picturesque countryside and vineyards at a
leisurely pace. On arrival in Macomer, we meet
our coach and continue south to our hotel in
the Oristano area for our two-night stay.
Day 6: Tharros & Oristano
Discover ancient Sardinia on our included
excursion to the ruins of Tharros, one of the
most fascinating archaeological sites on the
island which dates back to the 8th century.
Highlights include the Corinthian columns and
the temple foundations, and the location of this
ancient town is just as impressive with wonderful
views across the bay of Oristano. Lunch is also
included on our excursion, after which we return
to Oristano and enjoy a walking tour of this
pretty city followed by an afternoon at leisure.
Day 7: Little Green Train, Laconi to Isili,
Is Paras & Cagliari
This morning we will visit the Roman Thermal
baths of Fordongianus. Dating back to the
1st century AD, it was once an important
commercial centre and site of a major baths
complex, the remains of which can still be visited.
Later our coach transfers us to Laconi where we
step aboard the Little Green Train one last time
for a journey which winds through the hills and
passes alpine-like scenery to Isili. We are then
taken by coach to Is Paras and stop for lunch
before visiting the Bronze Age site of Nuraghe Is
Paras, a beautiful Nuraghe with white stones. Our
journey continues by coach for an overnight stay
in the Cagliari region.
Day 8: Cagliari – London
After breakfast we are taken by coach to Cagliari
airport for our flight back to London.
