Meet the installer – Q&A
Every month we talk to an NSI Gold accredited installer about life in the business.
This month we take a look back at what installers said when we asked:
What would make your job easier...?
Darryn Faivelowitz –
CTS Security Alarms
What I really like about this industry
is that you come in each day and you
never know what is going to happen.
There is always a lot of firefighting in
this industry, for example there
could be a storm tonight which could
completely change the calls we get
tomorrow. Staffing issues at certain
times of the year can be problem. Over the summer holidays
when the schools are closed and people are away is naturally the
time when the schools want any work doing.
Martin Shearer –
Tamar Security
Customers not saying “but I can buy it
on the internet for .....?!” Some people
are surprised how much a
professionally installed and
maintained system can cost.
Steve Bird – Astra Security
In an ideal world, all of our work would
be completed during the hours of 9 till
5. At Astra, we have listened to our
customers and their requirements and
understand that this is not always
possible. To ensure that we are in a
position to respond and install around
the customers schedule, we have
invested and supply a 24hours, 7 days a week support
infrastructure meaning that we are able to support the customer
as quickly as they require.
Jacques Lombard – Syntinex
Time! We are a 24/7 industry and we
pride ourselves on customer services
and getting the job done right. You
always have those days where you want
those extra few hours in the day to make
sure everyone has been seen to and
problems dealt effectively.
Scott McLean –
Stirling Alarms
Customers giving design
specification and type of equipment
more weight in their decision making
over cost. Each install is different and
we prefer to discuss and meet with
the customer and give them design
options which we believe to be in
their best long term interest but
other companies will quote with minimal equipment and less
specification to win the job. We may lose out on some occasions
but we believe our method is the correct way to do business.
David Barnes – Black Box
Accreditation is so important for the
industry and the businesses operating
within it. There needs to be clear
regulations driven by the appropriate
bodies and the insurance companies to
ensure that all security and life safety
systems are installed by a fully
accredited company.
Clare-Marie Howes –
Network Security & Fire
Although my position can at times be
demanding and stressful I have a really
good team, they listen, learn and
achieve. They say a ship is only as
good as its crew and we have really
good crew here most of which have
been here for eight, twelve and 20
years - there’s not many companies that can say that and in this
day and age thats a real testament to the company.
The company is expanding and if we could only source the
apprentices and engineers we need to assist us with that growth
that would make make lots of jobs here a lot easier
Craig Gwilliams –
Securenett
A universal software application
that has the capabilities to help aid
the specification, design and
implementation of any proposed
system design regardless of
product type.
