Focus on
The world’s most advanced
laser technology is now
available in Brentwood.
Clearlift TM 4D Laser Treatment Pigmentation Reduction Micro needling HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound)
Face and Neck Lift
I had a laser re-surfacing treatment in Harley
street some years ago; the sort where you look
like a burns victim for a week, and then, as your
skin flakes off, you look fresh and new, just like
the one Jennifer Anniston talks about on TV.
Whilst walking down Harley street post
treatment, I bumped into someone I knew –
Agghhhhh!!! I wanted to jump into the nearest
bush, but sadly for me, there aren’t any
convenient bushes down Harley street. I was
mortified!
I’m a qualified therapist and teacher with 20
years’ experience and that day in Harley Street,
really got me thinking. There has got to be a
better way!
So, Avalon Medispa was born. A discreet Laser
and Wellbeing clinic in a residential area,
deliberately not on a high street, providing
treatments that make a real difference, at a
realistic price. Technology has come a long way
and it’s no longer necessary to suffer with long
down time after a laser treatment, if at all.
We offer many types of advanced face and
body treatments, treating concerns such as
reducing lines and wrinkles, lifting and
tightening skin, reducing pigment and thread
veins, treating acne and acne scarring and fat
and cellulite reduction. We currently have a
great half price offer available to local residents
for HIFU Lifting, Fat Freezing and Laser.
All consultations are free. There is free parking
and we offer all the same high quality
treatments rarely seen outside main centres such
as Harley Street, locally, in a relaxed calm space.
We’d love to hear from you.
A little ray of sunshine
Why we need the sun to survive
The sun provides numerous benefits to earth,
many of which are absolutely essential for life
to exist. Without the sun we would not be
shrouded in darkness, rather, we wouldn't be
here at all.
Source of Heat
The sun is the only thing that prevents our
planet from being too cold to sustain life.
Without the sun’s heat, life would be
impossible on earth. This heat also ensures
that water on earth is available in liquid form
(as apposed to frozen water or steam).
Energy Resource
The sun's heat also creates a vast amount of
energy on our planet, in fact, pretty much all
energy created and used on Earth derives from
the sun in one way or another. Many people
are aware of solar energy to create power, but
the Sun is also the main cause of the weather
patterns and air currents, this is then
harnessed as energy by turbines in the form of
wind turbines or marine energy (from the
ocean). The sun also causes an evaporation of
water that creates rainfall, which is collected
and converted to power by large dams.
Photosynthesis: Oxygen and Food
Another way energy is harvested by the sun is
in the form of photosynthesis. This process is
done by plants and other autotrophic
organisms and is essential for all life on Earth.
Photosynthesis involves sunlight being
converted into glucose, a by-product of which
is oxygen. Whilst it is obvious to most that life
would be impossible on Earth without oxygen,
the process of photosynthesis is also essential
for food on this planet, meaning that if plants
were not able to perform this action and grow
52
and flourish, the entire food chain would suffer
and no animal would have food, including us.
Gravity and the Perfect Distance
Our planet, and every
other planet in our solar
system, revolves around
the sun. Our orbit of the
sun lasts for 365 days,
and a complete orbit
forms a year on Earth.
This orbital effect is
caused by the sun’s large
gravitational pull, and
our orbit ensures that we consistently remain at
the perfect distance from the sun to reap the
benefits and not experience temperatures that
are either too hot or too cold for the existence
of life on Earth. When ascertaining an answer to
the question – why do we need the sun to
Most of the energy
created and used on
earth derives from the
sun in one way or
another.
unable to see anything. It could be argued,
however, that all life would have evolved to use
other means of navigation and detection, much
like animals who dwell in dark areas (like caves)
or nocturnal hunters. That
being said, the light
provided by the sun makes
the possibility of life far
easier.
Vitamin D Production
When a human is exposed
to safe levels of UV light
(which is formed by the
sun but can also be created artificially), it
causes one’s body to produce Vitamin D via a
metabolic process which is instigated from UV
light (specifically UVB) hitting one’s skin. The
main purpose of vitamin D is to help the body
to absorb calcium, ensuring for strong bones,
survive? The fact that we are constantly
revolving around it, at the perfect distance, is a
key fact to consider.
Light
The sun is the main source of light on the
planet, and ensures that all creatures are able
to see throughout the day. Without this light it
would be very difficult to do things necessary
for life, such as attain food, as they would be
though it is known to have many other positive
effects on the body. Whilst this may not be an
absolute necessity for life to be possible on our
planet, it does help to ensure that life (for
humans at least) is healthy, strong, and able to
flourish. It should be stated, however, that over
exposure to UV light can cause damaging and
potentially life threatening complications. That
is why wearing sunscreens to block harmful
radiation is very important.
Cloudy2Clear Announce
Trusted Trader Partnership
Consumer champions
Which? have now
joined the thousands of
customers who recognise
that Cloudy2Clear
Windows really are a
business that you can
TRUST. The company
which specialises in
repairing windows which
are steamed up, broken
or damaged by replacing
the panes – not the frames
has received the coveted
‘Which Trusted Trader’
status after going through
a rigorous accreditation
process entirely focussed
on customer service.
Group Managing
Director Marcus McGee
believes that Which? have
endorsed Cloudy2Clear’s
long standing company
policy of delivering the
highest standards possible
at all times. ‘Our service
is simple. If your double
glazing has misted up we
can replace the glass at a
fraction of the cost of a
new window, in any type
of frame, and with a new
25 year guarantee. But
it’s not just about saving
people money, although
that obviously helps. Whilst
a number of tradespeople
perhaps don’t focus on
customer care as much as
they should do, we make
sure we turn up when we
say we will, do the job the
customer requires and leave
their house as clean as a
whistle.
Locally Cloudy2Clear

Hutton Mount, Ingatestone,
Ingrave & Herongate and
manager Chris Miller
agrees that this approach
is a major factor in his
success. ‘The truth is that
it’s not just the personal
satisfaction that I get from
doing a good job but also it
makes good business sense.
I get a huge amount of
business from friends and
family of people I’ve done
work for, which just goes
to show how much a little
bit of effort is appreciated
as both my customers
and, obviously a body as
nationally important as
Which? now recognise.’
Clubs & Associations Profile
HUTTON BRIDGE CLUB
Hutton Bridge Club
is a very active,
welcoming and
social but
competitive bridge
club, playing every
Monday and
Wednesday
evening at Beckets
Keys School in Brentwood. As well as
weekly bridge we host special events such
as the Club Championship, Spring
Individual, EBU and Charitable
Simultaneous Pairs, Fledgling Fours and a
Christmas party. Our active social scene
means we enjoy various social events and
an annual weekend holiday. The club fields
teams in all the major Essex and some
national competitions including some for
the less experienced.
If you’re new to the game we also run
lessons at Hutton Community Centre on
Monday mornings and a Play and Learn
Club on Monday afternoons, so you can
learn with us, play with us, socialise with
us and compete with and even for us if
you so wish!
Bridge itself offers an enjoyable afternoon
or evening out and a mentally stimulating
experience as well as the chance to make
new and lasting friendships. Mind sports
and mental activities are beneficial in
helping to delay the onset of dementia but
bridge unlike chess, Sudoku, Scrabble etc. is
inherently social and a partnership game -
yet you don’t need a partner to learn. We
are excited to be celebrating our 40th
Anniversary this year and are an expanding
club – we hope you might join us!
