Famous philanthropists
Donations and charity work by the rich and famous
The rich and famous certainly seem to have it
all these days. They have a yearly income that
some of us can only dream of. However, we
rarely hear about all the good that certain
millionaires and billionaires have done or are
constantly doing. That’s why we’ve compiled a
list of the most generous wealthy people who
are donating and giving back on an epic scale.
Bill Gates
It has been reported that he donated $4.6
billion worth of Microsoft shares to the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation to combat malaria
and improve healthcare around the world. His
wife Melinda and fellow billionaire Warren
Buffett started The Giving Pledge, inspiring
people to use their money for the greater good.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Being one of the highest paid film stars of his
time, Leonardo gives a healthy sum of it away
to many worthy causes who care for the
environment, conservation and human rights.
Oprah Winfrey
When it comes to giving Oprah Winfrey is never
far away. Her charity work includes establishing
a school in South Africa for girls, providing
grants to non-profit organisations and donating
to charities. And if that wasn’t enough she runs
a program to inspire young people to bring
hope to their own communities.
Elton John
A knighthood for Sir Elton John was to
recognise all his good work and donations to
various charities, including his work through the
Elton John AIDS Foundation. Established by his
good self in 1992, working to rid the world of
this terrible disease.
44
Nicki Minaj
In today’s music industry Nicki Minaj continues
to dominate the charts and will no doubt be
paid well for her hard work, but little do we
know that she has a
scholarship program to
help students with their
debt, alongside that,
rumored to of paid off
student loans and
donated to an indian
village for numerous
years.
J.K. Rowling
Being knocked off the billionaires list due to
giving too much of her own money away to
charity may not be so bad after all, as she was
the first writer to make it to the list. As well as
writing she runs a charitable trust called Volant.
Involving a variety of causes with a strong
emphasis on women and children.
The rich and famous
are changing lives
and making a
difference.
George Michael
Donating millions to charities, secretly
volunteering at a homeless shelter and giving
money to strangers was normal for the troubled
star George Michael.
Reports of five figure sums
were given to many well
known charities and
donated to a Deal or No
Deal contestant seeking
money to pay for IVF
treatment. Since his death
we are discovering more
about his philanthropic life
style and will be recognised not only for his
numerous hits but as an individual who did
some wonderful acts of kindness and will
remain in the hearts of many.
Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen DeGeneres could easily be renamed Ellen
the Generous. According to She Knows, the
Dolly Parton
Not just a great pair of lungs. Dolly’s talents
don’t stop when she hangs up the mic. Dolly has
helped many people get their lives back on track
after natural disasters, provided scholarships,
donated to medical centres and continues to
send millions of books each year to young
children through her Dollywood Foundation.
hilarious talk-show host has donated thousands
to causes ranging from rebuilding schools to
saving elephants. She donated $1 million to a
disaster relief after Hurricane Harvey. She also
uses her fame to raise more money for charity,
as her famous Oscar selfie raised $3 million from
Samsung, which went to St. Jude’s Children’s
Hospital and The Humane Society.
Cloudy2Clear Announce
Trusted Trader Partnership
Consumer champions
Which? have now
joined the thousands of
customers who recognise
that Cloudy2Clear
Windows really are a
business that you can
TRUST. The company
which specialises in
repairing windows which
are steamed up, broken
or damaged by replacing
the panes – not the frames
has received the coveted
‘Which Trusted Trader’
status after going through
a rigorous accreditation
process entirely focussed
on customer service.
Group Managing
Director Marcus McGee
believes that Which? have
endorsed Cloudy2Clear’s
long standing company
policy of delivering the
highest standards possible
at all times. ‘Our service
is simple. If your double
glazing has misted up we
can replace the glass at a
fraction of the cost of a
new window, in any type
of frame, and with a new
25 year guarantee. But
it’s not just about saving
people money, although
that obviously helps. Whilst
a number of tradespeople
perhaps don’t focus on
customer care as much as
they should do, we make
sure we turn up when we
say we will, do the job the
customer requires and leave
their house as clean as a
whistle.
Locally Cloudy2Clear
service Billericay,

Hutton Mount, Ingatestone,
Ingrave & Herongate and
manager Chris Miller
agrees that this approach
is a major factor in his
success. ‘The truth is that
it’s not just the personal
satisfaction that I get from
doing a good job but also it
makes good business sense.
I get a huge amount of
business from friends and
family of people I’ve done
work for, which just goes
to show how much a little
bit of effort is appreciated
as both my customers
and, obviously a body as
nationally important as
Which? now recognise.’
So, if your windows are
BLUE FLOWER CAFE
A Dementia Carers
Group who offer support
and advice to those
caring for a loved one,
drawing from their own
experiences.
Do you feel isolated? As
if others don’t
understand how your
lives have changed? Try
our support group, we
know exactly what you
are going through, and will understand.
We may not solve everything but talking
and sharing reassures and comforts.
You are not alone.
We meet twice a month between
10:30am and 12:00pm.
1st Wednesday - Hutton Community
Centre, Harrison Close - 5th Sep, 3rd Oct,
7th Nov, 5th Dec.
3rd Monday - M&S Café, Brentwood High
Street - 17th Sep, 15th Oct, 19th Nov,
17th Dec.
We set up the café as there was
absolutely no other group with the
information that we had accumulated in
either our heads or leaflets over the
many years.
Between us both we have over 10 years
experience with people on the Dementia
journey, and we felt we should share it.
We have been meeting for just 2 1/2
years and are filling a huge hole in our
Community for many 'invisible carers'.
We use this phrase for the many wives
and husbands who do not even realise
that much of the 'support' in the system
applies to them... as they don't think
they are 'carers'.
