Urban Design Concerned with the urban as socially produced
and historically developed, the research and teaching
program Urban Design at HCU Hamburg engages with the
contemporary-future urban society in the practice(d)
forms of its co- and constant reproduction. Assembled as
an interdisciplinary course and working with a wide range
of methods and approaches, Urban Design aims to make
visible and negotiable the knowledge of and about urban
situations so as to unlock and demonstrate potentialities

Kai Vöckler is an urbanist and publicist in Offenbach, Germany.
He is a founder member of Archis Interventions and
program director South Eastern Europe (SEE) Network. He
has worked on urban development projects in southeastern
Europe and urban research projects in Europe and Asia.
He is currently an endowed professor of Creativity in Urban
Contexts at the Offenbach University of Art and Design,
Germany. He is also spokesman for the LOEWE research
cluster Infrastructure—Design—Society.

e.V., the Hamburg-based association, has existed since
2015 with the aim to explore the topic of opening up
closed spaces for the public. The festival Hallo Festspiele—
the association’s first—is an artistic and experimental
format of spatial development that led to a long-term use
of the so-called Schaltzentrale—an experimental and
artistic neighborhood bureau situated in the privately

Dorothee Halbrock, cultural organizer and curator,
initiated the collaborative development of Hallo Festspiele
in Hamburg in 2014 and is working on the program and
strategy of the association’s projects. She was founding
member and former curator of the MS Dockville
Kunstcamp and Festival and will program the raumlabor
project Floating University Berlin alongside Benjamin
Foerster-Baldenius.
Julia Jost is a dramaturge and director. After studying
philosophy and getting a degree in theatre directing in the
class of Luk Perceval, she studied sculpture under Monica
Bonvicini. In 2013 she began to work as a director's
assistant at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg. Since 2017
Julia Jost has worked at various theaters and off-spaces.
For Viele Grüße von e.V. she develops different formats
that combine discourse and performance.
Julia Lerch-Zajączkowska, an urban designer, is currently
working within a research and exhibition project at
Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. She was
teaching in several formats at HafenCity University (Urban
Design and Metropolitan Culture) and co-designed,
curated, and programmed various projects. As a member
of Hallo Festspiele and its partner project Schaltzentrale
she focuses on collaboration and international exchange.
Tina Steiger received her degree in political science from
the University of Florida and her master’s in urban studies
within the UNICA 4Cities Program. She has been an
external lecturer at the University of Copenhagen and
involved with the Hallo Festspiele in Hamburg since 2016.
Currently based in Copenhagen, she works for Leadership
Giving of the UN Refugee Agency.
Yvonne Werner is an urban planner and has worked at the HCU
Hamburg at the department of urban development and
district planning as a graduate assistant and taught in
various projects. In her work she is concerned with
practices of innovative planning offices in the context of

Martin Wickel is professor of law and administration at the
HCU Hamburg, where he has worked since the university’s
founding in 2006. He specializes in planning, building,

Kathrin Wildner is an urban anthropologist and did ethnographic
fieldwork in New York City, Mexico City, Istanbul,
Bogotá, and other urban agglomerations. As an urban
researcher she teaches, publishes, and participates in
transdisciplinary projects and international exhibitions.
She is a founding member of metroZones (www.
metrozones.info) and was visiting professor at the KHB
Weißensee (2013–2015). Since 2012 she has been professor
of cultural theory and practice at HCU Hamburg.

Filipa Matos Wunderlich holds a PhD in planning studies and is
a lecturer in urban design and the director of the Master of
Research in Interdisciplinary Urban Design at the Bartlett
School, UCL. Filipa has an interdisciplinary background
as an architect, urban designer, and musician. Before
engaging with academia she worked as an architect and
urban designer at KCAP in the Netherlands. Key research
interests are temporality in urban places, urban rhythms
and rhythmanalysis, sensory urbanism, and the design
and use of alternative urban typologies.
