14 DAILY HERITAGE THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2018 WWW.DAILYHERITAGE.COM.GH Having a hit song doesn’t make you an influential artiste — Sarkodie AWARD-WINNING GHANAIAN rapper Sarkodie, real name Michael Owusu Addo, has said getting hit songs cannot make an artiste influential. He made this assertion at a brief ceremony on Monday, May 21, 2018 held at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra to unveil the 2018 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) annual calendar of programmes. According to the hip hop recording artiste, the fact that a musician is able to get so many hit songs will not necessarily lead to loyal fans. He advised artistes to channel the focus in building a strong and aggressive followers who are determined on making the brand a force to be reckoned with in the industry. Sarkodie narrated an experience he had had with several radio presenters during his radio tour to promote his last album ‘Highest’. •Sarkodie, rapper The Black Entertainment Television (BET) award-winner disclosed that he was amazed at the suggestions from the presenters claiming because he was known for hit songs he should focus on giving his fans the commercial songs but he explained he “feeds his music to the people who really like Sarkodie and listen to Sarkodie”. “Hit song is very easy but that doesn’t mean you have a stand in the industry. Hit songs are the ones to save certain people like we’ve thousands of hit songs from one person but the person still don’t command the numbers now. “So that means the focus should be on building that deep love for your brand from the people. How you’re going to do it depends on the individual strategy. For me, that is why people don’t understand my last album ‘Highest’, which has so many hip hop songs and the radio had a lot of problem talking about it that I need to hit because I’m making a commercial song. “I understand their plea; that is why I did a ‘Painkiller’, a verse on Shey Shey song, and a no-kissing verse which will still keep Sarkodie going. “But what I have to do is to feed the people who really like Sarkodie or listen to Sarkodie and that is my numbers. That is why I’m proud to say that every 25th December, I’ve a sold-out concert at the Accra International Centre and it’s just because of the love being built to the people. “My little advice to every artistes is to focus on what the people feel about you and just give it to them, give it to them, give it to them because I rap in Twi and for people to play your songs outside Ghana is just because of the numbers I have and the people that believe in me. “BET told me straight in my face that they gave me the award because of the attitude of my fans. They are very aggressive and they called the BET office to ask if Sarkodie is bringing the award back home and that is how they care,”Sarkodie said at the AFRIMA event. Boris Kodjoe now Film Ambassador for Ghana HOLLYWOOD ACTOR Boris Kodjoe has been officially unveiled as Film Ambassador for Ghana by the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Madam Catherine Afeku. Unveiling Kodjoe as Ghana’s Film Ambassador to the press at a meeting in her office, the minister, after eulogising the celebrated actor for being a brand and icon, asked the actor to take up the mantle as Ghana’s Film Ambassador. Kodjoe was born in Vienna, Austria, the son of Ursula, a German psychologist of partial Jewish descent, and Eric Kodjoe, a Ghanaian physician who is of Krobo descent. Okyeame Kwame to raise GH¢1m to support John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation MULTIPLE AWARD-WIN- NING Ghanaian music tycoon and family-oriented personality, Okyeame Kwame, has vowed to support the foundation of Ghana’s former head of state, John Agyekum Kufuor. The elite foundation of Ghana’s former head of state is appropriately on a mission to raise GH¢80 million for the establishment of a leadership centre in the nation; and as part of being a member of the team for the said task, Okyeame Kwame has, by his own free-will and accord, vowed to raise a whooping GH¢1Million to assist the ‘John Agyekum Kufuor’ Foundation. Okyeame Kwame’s pledge was noticed through a current post he made on Twitter, unveiling himself as a member of the team, gearing up to raise GH¢80million for the leadership centre in Ghana. The musician, in his tweet, disclosed that he would raise the GH¢1million through arts, for which he was asking for extra ideas from his fans through social media. “I have been asked by The John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation to be part of a team to raise 80 million cedis for a leadership centre. The event will be graced by the presence of Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor, who will prominently sign many auctioned pieces of art. Speaking on JOY FM, Yeboah stated that critics seem to be happy about the situation because it is believed that Nyantakyi is arrogant and power-drunk. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo, on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) accusing the GFA capo of defrauding by false pretence. Nyantakyi is said to have taken money from some people with the promise that he would grant them access to the Presidency. He is said to have been captured in an upcoming exposé by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, titled ‘Number 12’. Nyantakyi has been president of the Ghanaian Football Association for 13 years. On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako Jnr, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, disclosed that a prominent lawyer tried to bribe investigate journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. Anas’s new work, ‘Number 12’, is said to be an exposé about the corruption at the GFA. “Look, this one, this GFA one, there was an attempt to bribe him, OK, There was an attempt because there is a lawyer – and I’m sorry I won’t mention his name, of course, he may know it’s him, maybe he is watching us – who is close to Anas and who knew that this job was going on, and I think he went and did some ‘Okro mouth’, so, somebody now tries to give him money to go and give to Anas,” stated Baako on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme on Thursday, May 17, 2018. “The lawyer took the money and was scared to go and deliver it to Anas. So, eventually, he [lawyer] had to go back to the man and say: ‘[I couldn’t deliver the bribe], take it’. But of course, we have found out. YEBOAH THE PRESI- DENT of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, yesterday handed himself to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service after he arrived from Morocco to assist investigations into an alleged fraudulent case reported against him by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Officers of the Airport offices of the CID whisked Mr Nyantakyi away from their station to the Police Headquarters over alleged acts of bribery and influence peddling using President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo’s name fraudulently. In a yet-to-be released Anas Aremeyaw Anas video on Ghana football, Mr Nyantakyi is captured allegedly demanding whopping sums of money from potential investors to facilitate their meeting with the President, his vice and other senior government officials. The video will be released on June 6, 2018 yet President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday directed the CID to take up the matter on prima facie basis as the alleged actions are criminal. The police have assured the public that due processes would be followed in the investigation and that “any person with relevant information may submit it to the Police CID Headquarters.” Quaye, Lamptey, rematch set for August 11 THE MUCH-ANTICI- PATED rematch between Sheriff Quaye and Benjamin Lamptey will come off on August 11 at the Bukom Boxing Arena. The duo fought for the National Lightweight Championship two years ago, but Quaye toppled Lamptey by winning via split decision.
