The company 

BiERBACH ® was founded in 1855 in Altena, a village 

situated in the Sauerland region. Today the headquarters 

are in Unna. With a qualified staff of 200 employees 

and an annual production of almost 10.000 tons 

of fixing products BiERBACH ® has become one of the 

leading manufacturers in its branch. 

With over 140 years in the market place and the consequently 

gained experience, combined with a user 

orientated company philosophy, BiERBACH ® clientele 

are ensured a reliable and efficient partner. 

BiERBACH ® has proved this yet again by being one 

of the first companies of its branch to have its quality 

management system certified to DIN EN ISO 9001:

Research and Production 

BiERBACH ® products are developed in close connection 

with users, architects and design engineers. 

Customer requirements and requests are given top 

priority at BiERBACH ® right from the first contact 

with the BiERBACH ® research team via the subsequent 

stages of construction on CAD upto to the first 

sample presentation. 

The subsequent series production processing, in 

each of the three different manufacturing divisions for 

wire, sheet metal and plastic, is accomplished on 

time-and power saving computer controlled production 

units ensuring a constant high level of quality. 

For all of the BiERBACH ® products the highest level 

of raw material quality and production precision is 

demanded: Our in-house materials laboratory controls 

for example, the structural texture and the 

strengths of the used semi-finished goods, and optical 

devices ensure the accuracy of size allowing for a 

100% fault separation.

timber connectors with calculated design values

fastening technology


Direct fastening with powder actuated tools has been in use with 

excellent results for many years. Many users value the dependability 

and speed with which high-quality fastenings can be produced. 

Of critical importance for troublefree working with direct fastening 

systems is the correct choice of components: powder actuated tool, 

fastener and cartridge. 

BiERBACH ® powder actuated tools satisfy all standard safety 

requirements. They have been tested and approved by the German 

Institute of Physics and Metrology (PTB). This is documented on the 

tools by a mark of approval. The following features 

underline the high safety standards of BiERBACH ® 

powder actuated tools. 

● Piston Principle 

In BiERBACH ® powder actuated tools the power of the cartridge 

does not act directly on the fastener, but on a piston. The energy 

released on ignition of the cartridge is first transferred to the 

piston. The piston hits the fastener and drives it into the work 

surface. The path of the piston in the tool is limited. If not all the 

cartridge energy is used up for when driving a fastener into the 

work surface, the piston in the tool is intercepted and the excess 

energy is dissipated. Penetration through the work surface and 

ricochets of the tool are therefore largely prevented. 

● Trigger Protection 

The trigger protection of BiERBACH ® powder actuated tools 

prevents unintentional firing of the tool. Ignition is only possible if 

the tool is pressed against a work surface with a force of at least 

50 N and the trigger is pressed.

Technical Information 

● Fall Protection 

The sturdy construction of the tool guarantees it will not ignite 

even if it is dropped on to a hard surface from a height of 

3 metres. 

● Noise Insulation 

The noise of the cartridge on ignition is reduced substantially by 

the special construction of BiERBACH ® powder actuated tools. 

Users and the environment are protected. 

● Repeat inspection 

According to § 15 (1) of the German Third Weapons Order, 

powder actuated tools sold and used in Germany must be 

returned to the manufacturer for repeat inspection every two 

years. The date of the last inspection is shown on a plaque on 

the tool. 

The number in the middle of the plaque indicates the year and 

the triangle on the setting-direction side the quarter of the last 

inspection.

Information Technical Information 

● Building Materials 

Powder actuated tools can be used on the following 

materials: 

– Concrete, minimum Bn 250, minimum thickness 10 cm 

– Structural steel, maximum 450 N/mm 2 , minimum thickness 6 mm 

– Solid stone masonry (conditional) 

● The following materials are unsuitable for use of powder actuated 

tools because they are either too hard or too soft: 

– AII hardened steels, spring steels, cast iron, welded seams and 

similar materials 

– Glazed or fired brick, ceramic, glass, natural stone and similar 

materials 

– Lightweight concrete, plasterboard, pumice, wood and similar 

materials 

● Examination of the Building Material 

Place the fastener on the building material and hit the head of the 

fastener several times with a hammer. The building material is 

suitable if the surface shows a clear imprint of the tip of the 

fastener and the tip is not damaged. If, however, the building 

material breaks or cracks or the fastener has already penetrated 

into the material, then it is unsuitable. 

● Tips on the choice of fasteners and cartridges 

Fastening on concrete 

The optimum penetration depth of the fastener is about 

25 to 35 mm. 

Distance from the open edges: at least 10 cm. 

Spacing between the fastenings: 

at least twice the penetration depth. 

Concrete strengths of more than 60 N/mm 2 are not suitable for 

powder fastenings. 

Fasteners may not be driven into prestressed concrete. 

Choice of Fasteners 

Penetration depth + thickness of the building material = necessary 

shank length. 

Fastening on Steel 

The penetration depth of the fastener should be about 

10 to 15 mm. With higher steel strengths also material thickness is 

of influence. 

Pay attention to the limitations of usage! 

Distance from the open edges: at least 2.5 times the shank 

diameter. Spacing between the fastenings: at least 8 times the 

shank diameter. 

Selection of Cartridge 

As a matter of principle: a trial fastening should always be carried 

out using the weakest cartridge or the lowest level of power on the 

tool. Then adjust the load of the cartridge and/or the level of the 

power on the tool to achieve the correct penetration depth. 

Excess energy strains the interception device and will damage the 

tool in the long run.

The BiERBACH ® -nylon anchor programm 

BiERBACH ® offers the ideal fasteners for almost all 

applications like nylon anchors, metal anchors etc.When 

choosing the appropriate fastener a number of influen- 

cing factors have to be taken into account. Only in case 

that the fasteners are appropriate for the specific appli- 

cation the requirements regarding load and security 

characteristics can be fullfilled. 

Factors of influence when choosing 

fasteners: 

• base material (construction material) 

• load 

– amount 

– direction 

– dynamics 

• position in construction component (rim and axial 

distances) 

• fire characteristics, corrosion resistance, demounting 

possibility 

1. Base material (construction material) 

The range of base materials used on constructions and 

installations is very ample. Specially light weight materials 

are more and more used on account of their favorable 

characteristics regarding weight and thermal conductivity. 

When choosing an anchor special attention 

has to be paid to the characteristics of the construction 

material like hardness, densitiy, volume and form. Specially 

fastenings on porous or cavity construction components 

require the use of specific anchors.

BiERBACH ® -Fastening Technique 

2. Loads 

A nylon anchor or other fastener must be capable to 

transfer securely the resulting loads into the base material. 

It is important to observe whether the load attacks 

according to the axis of the anchor, i.e. exerting a pullout 

strain, or vertically, i.e. with a shearing or bending 

force. A combination of both load types is possible. The 

load capacity of an anchor is considerably reduced in 

case of changing load forces, i.e. dynamic ones. Reduced 

load capacity has also to be taken into account in 

case of vibrations. The pull-out values shown in this 

catalogue represent break load values. For the calculation 

of constructions a corresponding safety factor has to 

be considered. 

3. Position in the construction component 

The fastening position in the construction component 

may require the use of a specific anchor type. If the 

fastening point has to be close to the rim of a construction 

component the use of anchors creating high expansion 

pressure is normally not possible. In this case 

expansion pressure free and positive locking anchors or 

compound anchoring systems have to be used.

4. Corrosion resistance/fire characteristics 

It has to be examined whether the fastening requires 

special fire characteristics and corrosion resistance. This 

is important when choosing the fastener. 

Categories of effectiveness 

• positive locking type i.e. drywall anchors, aerated, 

concrete anchors, 

concrete screws, 

• non-positive locking type i.e. nails, nylon anchors, 

(forced locking) hammer-in nylon anchors 

• combination of both i.e. ISO-anchors, 

knot anchors 

Factors of influence when mounting 

In any case, the mounting instructions for the individual 

products have to be observed. Drill diameter, drill depth, 

screw diameter etc. have to be maintained otherwise the 

effectiveness of the fastener will be reduced. On light 

weight base materials or cavity brick walls, drilling has to 

be made in drill and not hammer mode. The drill hole 

should be made as vertical as possible in relation to the 

surface of the construction component, and subsequently 

cleaned (blown out).

BiERBACH ® -nylon wall plugs 

Genuine nylon, grey. 

A universally applicable wall anchor suited for wood or chipboard screws. 

These anchors are manufactured from high quality polyamide (nylon) ensuring 

resistance against climatic conditions, ageing and decay. 

Nylon is sound insulating, offers a good electrical non-conductivity and is 

stable for temperature ranges of -40° up to +80°. The maximum load capacity 

of the anchor is achieved when using the largest possible screw diameter. The 

screws must, in this case, be 5 mm-10mm (1 x screw diameter) longer than 

the anchor and the material which is being attached.

BiERBACH ® -knot anchor 

Multipurpose anchor 

Polyethylene, with collar, for fastenings on cavity ceilings and walls, 

Fermacell sheets, drywall and chipboards. 

The BiERBACH ® -knot anchor is universally usable. This anchor expands in 

solid construction materials and maintains its grip through its pressuring action 

(friction grip) on the bore hole surface. In cavity materials the anchor knots 

itself into the available space (with a moulded locking force). The knot anchor 

was developed for wood and chipboard screws. The anchor collar prevents 

the anchor from being pulled into the cavity and ensures a flush finish. 

The specific form of the expanding shaft (divided in 3) combined together at 

the anchor end, guarantees a perfect screw insertion, producing the greatest 

possible and evenly distributed expansion action. The ribs beneath the anchor 

collar provide an effective action against rotation. 

The screw length is calculated by the anchor length plus the thickness of the 

object to be fastened.

Nylon anchors and screws now belong to history. BiERBACH ® -nylon press 

nails allow quick and accurate direct fastening into timber, concrete, brickwork 

and other solid construction materials. Pre-drill hole, hammer in the 

press-nail or stud, finished. Made of high quality nylon, the anchor offers 

several advantages: 

• High pullout resistance 

The elastic lamella structure of the nylon press nail gives a strong grip on 

the joints (see chart). 

• Corrosion resistant 

The whole nail is made of non-degrading nylon, therefore weather resistant 

and electrically non-conductive. 

These features make the BiERBACH ® -nylon press nail the genuine all-round

The BiERBACH ® ceiling anchor is suited for the support anchoring of ceiling 

hangers. It is characterised by its simple and rapid mounting and by its high 

load capacity. The pre-drilled and cleaned hole must be of the defined nail 

diameter. The ceiling nail must be hammered-in through the object to be 

mounted. Due to the wedge shaped parts of the BiERBACH ® ceiling anchor 

these are then pushed over each other. Through this forced expansion the nail 

is tightly wedged into the drilled hole. 

Suitable building materials: 

Concrete (approved), natural stone, solid brick walls. 

Permissible loads: 

as per certificate up to 0,5 kN in tension zone. 

For designers, the approval report, dimensions of fastener, permissible loads

This self tapping concrete screw has been specially developed for nylon 

anchor free fastenings in concrete, sand lime brick, solid brick, natural 

stone, cavity concrete blocks and clinker. 

Screwing-in depth in concrete is usually between 30 mm and 35 mm.

construction materials and serves for fast nylon anchor free direct fastening.

BiROX ® -concrete frame screw »BR« 

nylon anchor-free direct fastening in concrete or brickwork 

Steel, case hardened, bright galvanized, yellow chromatized, 

milling countersunk head and BiROX ® -drive no. 30. 

This screw rationalizes and simplifies the mounting of frames. Window 

and door frames of wood, PVC and other materials can be tension free 

fastened without nylon anchors. 

The thread cuts an interlocking forming thread into the anchoring base. These 

expansion-free anchors allow short rim and axial distances. The frames should 

be provided with pre-drilled holes of 6,2 mm Ø by the manufacturer. After 

installing and adjusting the frames, core holes Ø 6 mm are hammer drilled into 

the anchoring base. Drive in the concrete screw and finished. Remove wedges 

and aiding devices. (Low density materials, cavity blocks and honeycomb 

bricks to be drilled only in drilling mode). The screw head can be countersunk if 

needed.

This sturdy BiERBACH ® anchor allows multi-purpose direct fastenings on 

brickwork, concrete as well as solid and natural stone. Standard and time 

intensive nylon anchor fastenings are now almost unnecessary. Reduced 

installation times mean cost savings and therefore competitive advantages for 

tradecraft and industry. 

The utilisation is very variable and anchors with different head forms have 

been developed so that for all possibilities of use an optimum fastener can be 

chosen. 

The specially developed profile of the shaft guarantees a high pullout value in 

the aboye mentioned construction materials. 

After pre-drilling with drill Ø 6 mm or Ø 8 mm, the precisely developed anchor 

tip allows an easy driving-in of the fastener without damaging the rim of the 

drill-hole. The pre-drilled hole is to be approx. 15 mm deeper than the drive-in 

depth which in solid base material should be approx. 40 mm. 

Typical applications: 

This solid anchor type is particularly suited for the fastening of lath constructions 

on concrete, solid or natural stone. 

This steel anchor, used with clamp plates, is the perfect fastener of wire mesh 

to rock formations suffering from erosion and to be restored.

BiTHERM ® -insulation sheet anchor 

Mechanical fastening of soft and solid insulation materials on brickwork, 

concrete and trapezoidal sheet metal. Use Ø 10 mm drill, minimum drilled 

depth 40 mm, minimum setting depth 30 mm. 

This expansion anchor made of impact resistant synthetic material ensures a 

solid grip and sealing of the head avoiding penetration of condensation into 

the anchor. The disk head allows flush positioning with good mortar grip. 

The anti-slip rings above the expanding section prevent deeper penetration of 

the anchor into the drilled hole when hammering in the expansion nail. 

The high-grade synthetic type prevents cold bridges.

BiTHERM ® -insulation mat anchor 

For the mechanical fastening of insulation material onto brickwork and 

concrete (wall facing of up to 2 complete storeys). 

The elastic ring section at the tip of the anchor ensures a solid grip. Rapid 

mounting of this complete fastening element made of impact resistant plastic 

material without additional expansion nail. For fasteners of 130 mm in length 

and longer we recommend using a setting tool (round bar Ø 5 mm). 

Mounting instructions 

1. Drill an Ø 8 mm hole through the insulation material into the wall 

2. Drive-in the insulation anchor flush to the material surface 

3. Minimum anchoring depth 25 mm.

Steel, with aluminium-zinc-coating 

Fire resistant insulation metal anchors with an anchor head of 35 mm for the 

fastening of incompressible insulation material. 

This insulation material holder is characterised by its high load resistance 

(shear force) and is optimum fire resistance (fire resistance to DIN 4102, class A1). 

Pre-drill hole of Ø 8 mm into concrete and solid stone and Ø 6 mm for honeycomb 

brick and soft building materials. In aerated concrete up to grade G4, predrilling 

is not required. 

The anchor is hammered into the pre-drilled hole. The curled shaft presses itself 

tight against the hole wall, this creates a friction grip action resulting in a high 

tension resistance. 

The BiTHERM ® insulation anchor is suitable for the following materials: concrete, 

Iight concrete, natural stone, solid stone, porous stone, honeycomb brick, cavity 

block, aerated concrete.

Sales and delivery terms 

§ 1 Validity of the conditions, contract agreements 

1. These sales and delivery terms and conditions are valid for all deliveries, performances, 

and offers of the vendor. Business or delivery terms and conditions 

of the purchaser which conflict with these business terms or complement 

these terms will not be recognised. Their inclusions are hereby excluded. 

2. AII quotations given are not offers capable of acceptance so as to make a binding 

contract. 

3. Clarifications of orders and all orders placed require written contract acceptance 

from the vendor before any contract arises. 

4. Variations from these business terms and conditions and any other modifications 

or oral variations will first become effective when authorised in writing by 

the vendor. 

§ 2 Date of delivery, act of god 

1. Deliveries will be effected subject to the proviso of delivery possibility. 

2. If the delivery is delayed, hindered or prevented due to an act of god, unforeseen 

breakdown, shortage of raw materials or other cause whatsoever, for 

which the company is not responsible, the time of delivery shall at the vendors 

option be extended accordingly even if contractually agreed. If the delivery 

from the vendor under such circumstances is no longer possible or no longer 

reasonable the vendor shall be entitled to cancel part or in whole the agreement. 

3. If the delay exceeds two months the purchaser is entitled after reasonable 

rescheduling with respect to the still unfulfilled part to cancel the agreement. 

4. If the vendor is responsible for the delay the amount of damages claimed from 

the purchaser due to the delay for one agreement are restricted to a value of 

5 % of the invoicing value of the effected agreement. Claims in excess of this 

are hereby excluded, except when the delay can be attributed to negligence 

or intent of the vendor. 

§ 3 Prices 

AII prices are net and do not include the legally required VAT. AII prices quoted 

are ex works and are valid for up to 60 days after receipt of contract agreement. 

On expiry of this period the vendor is entitled to alter the prices after receipt of 

contract agreement if the costs to the vendor have changed beyond vendor's 

fault. 

The carriage costs and the costs of the packaging are separately shown on the 

invoice and for the purchaser's account. Packaging material can not be returned. 

§ 4 Delivery quantities, special productions 

1. The vendor is entitled to part deliveries in reasonable amounts. 

2. On agreements with successive deliveries the goods are to be accepted if 

possible in equal monthly amounts during the contract. The vendor is entitled 

for delayed call-off after fruitless rescheduling to arrange the division of the 

delivery at his own discretion. The vendor reserves the option that under these 

circumstances to be able cancel part of the agreement or be entitled to damages 

due to the purchasers failure of performance. 

For special productions as well as for large order quantities delivery tolerances 

of plus/minus up to 10% of the order are permitted. 

§ 5 Transfer risk 

The risk of accidental loss will be borne by the purchaser as soon as the transfer 

to the responsible transporter is effective or by dispatch on leaving the vendors 

storage. This is equally valid for shipments performed by the vendor's personnel 

either in whole or in part. 

§ 6 Terms of payment 

1. The vendors invoices are payable within 10 days after invoice date minus 2% 

trade discount or within 30 days without trade discount. 

2. The payment is considered valid only once the vendor has the amount at his 

disposal. Authoritative for the payment per exchange transfer or cheque is the 

definitive redeemability. The vendor is only obliged to accept exchange transfer 

on the basis of special agreement. The bank charges are for the purchaser's 

account. 

3. Should the purchaser be in arrears with payments, the vendor can demand 

interest of 1% per month over the current bank discount rate of the German 

Bundesbank. 

4. With established reasons of a substantial worsening of the purchasers financial 

position, in particular due to cessation of payment, cheque or exchange 

transfer protests or payment delays, the vendor ís entitled to fulfilment ,step 

by step, or to demand additional securities. After frustrated demands the vendor 

is entitled to cancel the agreement and under retention of title of ownership, 

to repossess delivered goods at the expense of the purchaser. 

5. The purchaser is only entitled to the counterbalance if his counterclaim is 

undisputet or legally established. 

AII rights, in particular the rights to reproduce and circulate, are reserved by the 

producer. No part of this catalogue may be reproduced in any other form - 

through photocopying, microfilming, or any other format - or transmitted or translated 

into a language used by machine, specially that of data processing equipment. 

No liability is accepted for content completeness, errors including technical alterations 

and additions. 

§ 7 Extended and prolonged retention of title of ownership 

1. Delivered goods remain the property of the vendor until full payment of the 

purchase price has been fully received (all right reserved merchandise). The 

delivered goods remain also the property of the vendor until the purchaser has 

met all agreements of the contract. 

2. The purchaser in entitled to dispose of the proviso goods in a correct business 

routine. As disposal is also included the application of the proviso goods to fulfil 

delivery and works contracts. Prerequisite for these rights is however that the 

purchaser reserves the rights of ownership on resale and that the obligations of 

the resale according to item 3 are passed back to the vendor. 

3. The purchaser assigns the existing resale obligations to the vendor. With disposal 

together with other goods the obligations in part are assigned, for the 

proviso goods value in relationship corresponding to the other goods. The 

assigned obligations serve in the same way as security as for the proviso 

goods. 

4. The vendor authorises the purchaser that the assigned obligations to the vendor 

for his invoices can be collected in the purchaser's name. The authority to 

collect a direct debit can only be revoked when the purchaser does not fulfil 

his payment obligations in a regular manner. 

5. In the event of any breach or non-performance by the purchaser, in particular 

for non-payment in respect to the previously agreed obligations or cessation 

of payments, the vendor is entitled that the assigned above obligations are 

given in warning to the debtor. Moreover the vendor is than entitled to prohibit 

the subsequent further action with the delivered goods, to repossess the proviso 

goods or if required dispute surrendered claims against third parties. The 

re-possession of proviso goods shall not be deemed to waive the agreements 

of the contract, unless the consumer credit regulations are deemed to apply. 

6. Any subsequent further action with the proviso goods happens on behalf of 

the vendor as manufacturer. The new matter becomes a proviso goods. Lapses 

the right of ownership of the vendor due to compounding, mixing or further 

action the purchaser adopts immediately his entitled rights of ownership in 

proportion to the invoice value of the proviso goods with respect to the invoice 

value of the other applicable goods as right of ownership. Compensation 

for damages for loss of goods ownership assigns the purchaser as well too 

the vendor as security. 

7. If the value of the assigned securities of the safeguarded obligations exceeds 

in total more than 20% the vendor is obligated in so far as claims from the 

purchaser at his request to release the securities. 

§ 8 Warranty 

1. Notification of damage or shortage must be send to the vendor in writing, 

immediately or at the latest within 8 days after receipt of the goods. Defects, 

which could not be discovered even after careful checking within this period, 

are to be immediately notified to the vendor in writing. 

2. Is the notification of damage or shortage timely and correctly justified the vendor 

will begin with a subsequent delivery of the complained goods. In case of 

failure of subsequent delivery within the adequate time span the purchaser 

can by his choice claim compensation discount (reduction) or cancel the agreement 

(contract changes). 

3. Any further warranty rights are herewith excluded, so long as the defect is not 

based on a property failure. 

§ 9 Limited liability 

The liability of the vendor for defective products, in accordance with the law of 

Liability of Defective Products remains unrestricted. Otherwise claims for damages 

for impossible performance, positive obligation damages, debt at end of contract 

and by unauthorised handling are excluded unless the vendor or authorised 

agents have deliberately or negligently acted. 

§ 10 Applicable law, place of jurisdiction 

1. For these business agreements and for all legal rights and obligations between 

the vendor and the purchaser shall be governed by the laws of Germany. 

The validity of unified sales right (UN sales right) is herewith excluded. 

2. AII possible legal differences arising from this contract will have Unna as place 

of exclusive jurisdiction, if the purchaser is a fully qualified merchant, a legal 

person under public law or public special fund. The vendor is, however, also 

authorised to claim against the purchaser in his home locality.
