Developers may still challenge the Council’s Plan, and planning applications
have already been submitted by developers with a view to reversing the stance
on Greenbelt. More details in our Villages section. To keep up to date on these
plans, visit the relevant websites at https://kilmacolmcivictrust.org/, http://
Health warning
There have been an number of heated debates, particularly on Facebook,
regarding the wearing of earphones when out and about. It has become a trend
to listen to music whilst participating in all sorts of activities such as walking,
jogging and cycling, to name but a few. This is perfectly safe in the confi nes of
a gym, music on the treadmill is great - fi nd your happy place and lose yourself
in the beat, but the same carries with it certain hazards in the great outdoors.
Personally, I have now twice witnessed a jogger stepping out in front of a car,
apparently oblivious to the oncoming hazard. In each instance the jogger was
listening to music and I presume they simply didn’t hear the car judging by the
look on their faces when they realised their situation; luckily an accident was
avoided. On the roads and cycle paths there are plenty of things to listen out
for without the distraction of music. This also presents an opportunity, just take
the time to listen to the silence, and then you realise just how noisy nature
really is - it’s wonderful!
Outdoors
With good weather comes busy gardeners. However, gardeners beware. It’s still
nesting season and some chicks and young birds haven’t left home yet. Please
be wary when pruning and trimming hedges, trees and large shrubs.
Have a quick look in the branches before beginning just in case there’s a nest
there. Nesting season is nearing an end for most local bird species, so a short
delay in the gardening schedule is all that’s needed.
I will now say no more about the weather and here’s to a brilliant June!
