We’ll not be intimidated
by death threats — Anas

ANAS AREMEYAW Anas has served
notice to his detractors that his campaign
against corruption would not cease,
despite the litany of death threats he is
receiving.
The award-winning undercover
journalist will on June 6 premiere a
documentary on corruption in Ghana
football, a piece he believes will shake
the foundation of the beautiful game.
The New Patriotic Party Member of
Parliament for Assin Central, Mr
Kennedy Agyapong, is on a crusade to
reveal the identity of Anas because he is
against his modus operandi while the
Ghana Journalists Association is
appealing to the Ghana Police Service to
protect their member.
“It has come to the attention of the
Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) that
internationally-acclaimed investigative
journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has
received many death threats following his
latest investigative piece on the game of
football in Ghana, which is scheduled to
be premiered in Accra on Wednesday,
June 6, and Thursday June 7, 2018.
“According to sources close to the ace
investigative journalist, apart from
receiving messages containing threats of
death, some unidentified persons have
been tracking his office and other
locations ostensibly to harm him,” the
GJA said in a statement.
Anas on Thursday tweeted: “We will
not be intimidated. More strength and
solidarity my brother,” after one of his
strong advocates and a sports journalist
of Atinka FM, Saddick Adams (Sports
Obama), was trailed by two unknown
assailants.
Meanwhile, President Nana Addo
Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reported the
head of the Ghana Football Association,
Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, to the police after
viewing excerpts of the video yet-to-be
released on June 6.
Mr Nyantakyi is currently on a police
enquiry bail, with the Deputy Minister of
Roads, Anthony Karbo, also assisting
with investigation as the football capo
was captured allegedly using the
president’s name to induce potential
investors for money.

welcomed by His Majesty, Otumfuo
Osei Tutu II, to the Manhyia Palace
in Kumasi, the capital of the
Ashanti Region of Ghana.
According to Dr Mensah, the
two discussed industrialization
strategy for Ghana and Ashanti
Region in particular. Otumfuo, who
is the Chancellor of the Kwame
Nkrumah University of Science and
Technology (KNUST), was pleased
that Dr Mensah had launched the
Silicon Valley of Ghana, at the Kofi
Annan ICT Training Centre, which
includes the four public universities
in the country, KNUST, University
of Ghana, University of Cape
Coast and the University of
Development Studies, Tamale.
Dr Mensah indicated that the
Vice Chancellor of KNUST is part
of the governing board of the
Silicon Valley of Ghana.

United States of America’s
Astronaut Bobby Satcher, an expert
in telemedicine, to the governing
Board of Directors.
He added that Otumfuo was also
briefed on the status of the major
airport Aircraft Maintenance facility
being planned for Kumasi for
which he had donated 23,000 acres
of land.
“This facility, the first of its kind
in West Africa, would be the West
African hub for maintenance of all
aircraft from the 15 ECOWAS
countries. The Boeing Corporation
would train Engineering graduates
of KNUST and all the high school
graduates in the country, to be

Dr Mensah said “the aircraft
maintenance project will create
300,000 to 400,000 jobs during
design, construction, operation and
maintenance in the country.
He said, “The Lamik
Corporation, which just finished
building the Dakar Airport in
Senegal, and is building the world’s
largest airport in Istanbul, is the
developer of the Kumasi Airport
and Otumfuo is behind this project
that could bring jobs and industries
to the Region.”
He said he and Otumfuo
discussed the New Eastern Line
High Speed from Tema to Kumasi
with seven tations at Tema, Accra,
Kyebi, Kumasi, Bonkara, Tamale
and Paga.
Dr Mensah said he was pleased
with the Railway Ministry since it
had issued request for quotations
after contractors had been selected.
“The Airport Maintenance
facility is very competitive since
other countries, including Nigeria
and Ivory Coast, also want this
West African hub and the Ministry
of Aviation must move quickly on
this project so that Ghana does not
lose ground,” he added.
Kete Krachi:
10 die in boat
accident

AT LEAST 10 people have
lost their lives after a boat
travelling from Kete Krachi
to Sipom, an island
community in the Volta
Region, capsised.
Four survivors are
currently receiving treatment
at the Kete Krachi
Government Hospital.
The incident, according
to a local reporter, Michael
Birikorang, occurred on
Wednesday afternoon when
the boat carrying over 20
passengers, mainly traders,
hit a log in the river and
immediately capsised in the
process.
“The incident happened
around 1:45p.m. on
Wednesday when a boat
carrying over 20 traders who
had come to trade at
Okpalima and were
returning hit a stump in the
water, causing water to enter
the boat, leading to the
sinking of the boat,”
Birikorang told ‘Starr News’.
Relatives have since
identified the 10 bodies.
The owner of the boat,
Akwasi Aweyeh, who also
lost his daughter as a result,
has been arrested by the
police to assist with
investigation.
