12 COMMUNITY NEWS Faith Christian School in Roseto will hold thei Graduation Ceremony on Friday, June 1st, at 7:30pm at Slate Belt Nazareth Baptist Church, 1620 Church Road, Pen Argyl, PA 18072 Class of 2018: Tyler Robert Brawley — Salutatorian; Lucas Bartolomeo DePinto; Jonathan Michael Hall; Esther Joy Jackson; Sabrina Lin Moody; Amanda Lynne Smith— Valedictorian; Amanda Lynne Smith— Valedictorian; Valedictorian, Amanda Lynne Smith, the daughter of David and JacLynne Smith, has attended Faith Christian School from kindergarten through her senior year, with the exception of tenth grade. She was the treasurer of her class for her sophomore and senior years and the president of Student Council for her junior and senior years. An avid athlete, Amanda has greatly enjoyed being on the soccer team for her sophomore through senior years, track during her sophomore year, and basketball for all four years of high school, serving as the team captain during her junior and senior years After school, Amanda spends her time as a waitress at Johnnie’s Italian Restaurant, hanging out with her friends and sisters, and playing with her dogs. Amanda plans on attending Northampton Community College and obtaining her RN with the intention of transferring and working to obtain her BSN and eventually MSN to one day become a NICU nurse practitioner. Salutatorian, Tyler Robert Brawley, the son of Brian and Beverly Brawley, has attended Faith Christian School since seventh grade. In his freshman year, he served as class treasurer. In his sophomore year, Tyler began taking afternoon classes at Monroe Career & Technical Institute for Outdoor Power Equipment. For two consecutive quarters, he was selected as “Student of the Quarter” at MCTI. During his junior year, Tyler placed first in the SkillsUSA District 11 competition and moved on to the States competition where he placed third. In his senior year, he scored Advanced on his written NOCTI test at MCTI and had a perfect score for the hands-on portion. Tyler volunteers every other Friday night at the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church food pantry. He is currently a service technician at Pocono Tractor & Equipment for Husqvarna lawn equipment. He also owns and operates his own firewood business where he cuts, splits, and sells 75-100 cords of firewood a year. For the past three years, he has donated one cord of firewood to Faith Christian’s Gala auction. Tyler will be attending Ohio Technical College this August for Diesel Technology where he will obtain his Associates degree. His plans are in God’s hands, and he is very excited to see them unfold. Faith Christian School, K-12 grades, has been serving the Christian communities of the Pocono Mountains, Slate Belt, eastern New Jersey, and the Lehigh Valley areas for over 37 years. Children from ten school districts and over 40 churches comprise the diverse and outstanding student body. Most public school districts provide transportation to our school facility located one mile north of Bangor and eight miles south of Stroudsburg, off Route 191 in Roseto, Pa. May 31, 2018 13 Little Creek Bar-B-Cue Competed at the Kings of Q BBQ Competition & Festival Little Creek Bar-B-Cue competed at the Kings of Q BBQ Competition & Festival in Ayden North Carolina on May 18 and 19. They placed 11th in Chicken, 8th in Ribs, 13th in Pork, and 21st in Brisket. They placed 12th overall out of 38 competing teams. Congratulations to Little Creek Bar-B-Cue! The Bangor Park Park Board announces it's 2018 Summer Events Saturday Night, June 23rd: Movie Night featuring Sherlock Gnomes The movie starts at dusk and is free to the public. Refreshments will be sold. Friday Night, June 29th: Splashdance at the pool from 7:30pm- 9:30pm for all teens ages 13-15. l admission fee. Lifeguards and chaperones will be present. Friday Night, July 20th: Family Luau. 7pm to 9:30pm admission fee includes: pool admission, DJ, games and contests with prizes and 1 family luau souvenir photo. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. August 11th: Party @ the Pool! 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Spend the afternoon at Bangor Memorial Park Pool with a D.J., fun & games with prizes. (Admission is free if you have a Pool Pass). August 18th (tentative): Pooch Plunge at Pool The last day of the pool season is one for our furry friends. Slate Belt Heritage Center Monthly Historic Presentation The Slate Belt Heritage Center is seeking any individuals who would like to share, in the form of a presentation, any pertinent historical information about the Slate Belt. Forks Township Historical Society The Forks Township Historical Society meetings are held the 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 pm at the Faith Lutheran Church. There is Show & Tell and a Speaker at each meeting. Rustic Retail Market and Twisted Motorsports Show and Swap Meet HEJJ Productions, LLC will be hosting the Rustic Retail Market and Twisted Motorsport show at the Sussex County Fairgrounds on Father’s Day Weekend, June 16th and June 17th, 9am to 5pm. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at https://www.gohejj.com/. Presale tickets will be entered to win a $50 Market Voucher. The all-ages event will feature two shows at one venue. The indoor “Rustic Retail Market” will host 80 plus artisan vendors while the “Twisted Motorsports Show and Swap Meet” will be going on outdoors. The shows will have a large indoor food court with an abundance of food options. A beer and wine garden will be available for any thirsty adults over 21! Family owned and operated businesses Dixie Belle Paint Company, D. Lawless Hardware and Grace on Broadway are the main event sponsors. There will be opportunities for you to see, learn about, and use products as well as purchase some for home! Browse over 80 artisan vendors, gather ideas or shop to find something special and one of a kind. The Twisted Motorsports event will have various commercial and private vendors from new bikes, to old parts, and everything in between. Sponsor Rocky Mountain Co. will be on hand with plenty of product give-aways. Attendees will also have the option to enter their own bike(s) for the chance to win a trophy! Locomotion Powersports will also be there with plenty of new machines. Peruse the Swap Meet to find that vintage part or machine you need. Heather and Ed Marzigliano are the co-owners and operators of HEJJ Productions and of Grace on Broadway in Bangor, PA. The couple wanted to create a show focused on both of their interests: motorsports and artisan shopping so they thought “let’s put them together at the same event and keep everyone happy and interested!” Through the process of building the show it has been important to find unique trusted vendors, a quality venue, and to keep a family friendly atmosphere for a great Father’s Day weekend. NCC to Offer Free Information Session on Becoming a Medical Secretary Session will be held at Easton Education Center Become a vital part of the administrative support staff in the healthcare field. Northampton Community College (NCC) will hold a free information session about its new medical secretary program on June 6th, 6:00 p.m. at the Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 East 3rd Street in Bethlehem. Medical secretaries are involved in daily tasks that ensure the day to day operations of a busy practice, healthcare facility, or treatment care centers run smoothly. Greeting patients, maintaining schedules, and accessing medical records require medical secretaries to be competent in interpersonal skills and computer hardware and software systems.Learn how to gain these office skills and medical knowledge. Friends of the Bangor Public Library If you would like to become involved in a community group and make new friends please consider joining the Friends of the Bangor Public Library. The group conducts activities throughout the year to financially benefit and promote literacy for the Bangor Library. Some of their projects are: Two “Brunch w/the Author” presentations, a “Spring Book Sale” and a book sale at the “Blue Valley Farm Show". This past year a “Wine Tasting Party" and “Breakfast w/Santa” and a fundraiser at the “Broadway Pub”, a "Bake Sale" and the famous “Duck Race” were also held. The Friends meet the 4th Thursday of each month in the upstairs room of the library. The Friends also support the “Children’s Reading Hour”, and decorate the library for the holidays.
