DiscoverE Adventure Backpacks Available<br />

When: Monday thru Friday, 8:00m-2:30m<br />

Where: Jacobsburg Visitor Center, 400 Belfast Road, Nazareth<br />

Borrow a backpack full of kid-friendly tools to explore Jacobsburg! <strong>The</strong>se<br />

backpacks are best for families with young children. Each backpack<br />

includes binoculars, notepad, colored pencils, magnifying lens, bug box,<br />

dip net, and five field guides for exploring the pond, insects, birds, trees,<br />

butterflies and moths. For more information call 610-746-2801 or email<br />

Fishing Rods and Tackle Available<br />

When: Monday thru Friday, 8:00m-2:30pm<br />

Where: Jacobsburg Visitor Center, 400 Belfast Road, Nazareth<br />

Borrow fishing poles and tackle to use in Jacobsburg’s creeks! To borrow<br />

equipment, you must provide a driver’s license or other form of state issued<br />

identification. Persons age 16 and older must possess a current fishing<br />

license to fish. Adults can help children under 16 fish without a license.<br />

Bait is not provided. For more information call 610-746-2801 or email<br />

Volunteer Day at Jacobsburg - Saturday, June 9th, 10:00am-3:00pm.<br />

Help us plant trees and shrubs and work on our native plant gardens!<br />

Please dress for the weather and bring your favorite work gloves, bottled<br />

water and lunch. Your help is greatly appreciated!<br />

Tuesday Trails - Tuesday, June 12th, 5:30pm-7:00pm<br />

Get moving after work with a brisk hike at Jacobsburg! <strong>The</strong>se guided<br />

monthly hikes are 2 to 2.5 miles over uneven terrain. Dogs are welcome<br />

to hike on a leash. Meet at the Visitor Center flagpole at 400 Belfast Road.<br />

Avian Adventures for Scouts - Saturday, June 16th, 3:00pm-4:30pm.<br />

Have you ever wanted to learn more about birds? <strong>The</strong>re's no time like<br />

<strong>May</strong> <strong>31</strong>, <strong>2018</strong><br />

the present! Join us to learn about what equipment you'll need, get tips<br />

on identifying birds by sight and sound and find out what makes bird<br />

watching such a great hobby. This program is best for 8-18 year old<br />

scouts. Scouts are required to register themselves for the program.<br />

Family Camping for Beginners at the Boulton Historic Site<br />

5:00 PM Saturday, June 16th to 9:00 AM Sunday, June 17th<br />

If you have ever wanted to try camping, this is the perfect introduction!<br />

Jacobsburg EE Center will loan tents, sleeping pads, cook stoves, and<br />

cookware to families who are new to camping. Jacobsburg Historical<br />

Society will host at their location and provide a Dutch oven cooking<br />

demonstration. You provide your food, chairs, bedding, and flashlights.<br />

Together we’ll guide you through setting up your tent, cooking over<br />

a fire or stove, to enjoying a fun-filled evening under the stars. We’ll<br />

learn about fireflies during our evening educational program! Please<br />

bring your own camping equipment if you have camped with us before.<br />

<strong>The</strong> cost is $8.00 per person, children 5 and under are free. <strong>The</strong> fee<br />

helps to support the Jacobsburg Historical Society. To register, call the<br />

Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center at 610-746-2801 or email<br />

jacobsburgsp@pa.gov. Registration is required.<br />

Butterflies of Jacobsburg - Saturday, June 30th, 10:00m-12:00pm<br />

Join local butterfly enthusiast Bill Grant for this walk through the fields<br />

of Jacobsburg in search of these beautiful insects. Participants should<br />

wear sturdy hiking shoes. Hat, bottled water, sunscreen, and a camera are<br />

recommended. Registration is required.<br />

jacobsburgsp@pa.gov. With at least three days notice, interpreters for<br />

people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational<br />

In response to our community, the Slate <strong>Belt</strong> Heat Recovery Center will not discharge<br />

any water into local waterways. <strong>The</strong> project has been redesigned so that all water<br />

from the plant’s processes will be transported to permitted wastewater treatment<br />

plants for recycling. All wastewater from the plant’s lunchroom and lavatories will be<br />

treated by the Pen Argyl Wastewater Treatment Plant.<br />
