Megan is a sophomore at Pen Argyl High School where she is active in cheering, basketball, track and field and student government. She is also class vice-president, a member of 2018-2019 minithon leadership committee and a TV anchor. She ranked in the top five of her class for both her freshman and sophomore years. Megan was UCA All American cheerleader in her freshman year, competed at state cheering competitions in both her freshman and sophomore years, and took third and fourth place at district/colonial league pole vault competitions in both her sophomore and freshman years. Her hobbies include playing the piano, shopping and baking. Megan plans on attending a four year university and law school to become a corporate attorney. Attending Hoby is especially exciting for her not only for a new experience but, her uncle also attended Hoby as a Pen Argyl sophomore. Hoby was founded by actor Hugh O’Brian in 1958. For over thirty years the Hugh O’Brian Leadership seminar has worked diligently at inspiring and empowering young people to make a difference in our community. Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center Community Programs, June DiscoverE Adventure Backpacks Available When: Monday thru Friday, 8:00m-2:30m Where: Jacobsburg Visitor Center, 400 Belfast Road, Nazareth Borrow a backpack full of kid-friendly tools to explore Jacobsburg! These backpacks are best for families with young children. Each backpack includes binoculars, notepad, colored pencils, magnifying lens, bug box, dip net, and five field guides for exploring the pond, insects, birds, trees, butterflies and moths. Fishing Rods and Tackle Available When: Monday thru Friday, 8:00m-2:30pm Where: Jacobsburg Visitor Center, 400 Belfast Road, Nazareth Borrow fishing poles and tackle to use in Jacobsburg’s creeks! To borrow equipment, you must provide a driver’s license or other form of state issued identification. Persons age 16 and older must possess a current fishing license to fish. Adults can help children under 16 fish without a license. Bait is not provided. For more information call 610-746-2801 or email jacobsburgsp@pa.gov. Volunteer Day at Jacobsburg - Saturday, June 9th, 10:00am-3:00pm. Help us plant trees and shrubs and work on our native plant gardens! Please dress for the weather and bring your favorite work gloves, bottled water and lunch. Your help is greatly appreciated! Tuesday Trails - Tuesday, June 12th, 5:30pm-7:00pm Get moving after work with a brisk hike at Jacobsburg! These guided monthly hikes are 2 to 2.5 miles over uneven terrain. Dogs are welcome to hike on a leash. Meet at the Visitor Center flagpole at 400 Belfast Road. Registration is not required. Join the email reminder list by contacting us at 610-746-2801 or jacobsburgsp@pa.gov. Avian Adventures for Scouts - Saturday, June 16th, 3:00pm-4:30pm. Have you ever wanted to learn more about birds? There's no time like May 31, 2018 the present! Join us to learn about what equipment you'll need, get tips on identifying birds by sight and sound and find out what makes bird watching such a great hobby. This program is best for 8-18 year old scouts. Scouts are required to register themselves for the program. Family Camping for Beginners at the Boulton Historic Site 5:00 PM Saturday, June 16th to 9:00 AM Sunday, June 17th If you have ever wanted to try camping, this is the perfect introduction! Jacobsburg EE Center will loan tents, sleeping pads, cook stoves, and cookware to families who are new to camping. Jacobsburg Historical Society will host at their location and provide a Dutch oven cooking demonstration. You provide your food, chairs, bedding, and flashlights. Together we’ll guide you through setting up your tent, cooking over a fire or stove, to enjoying a fun-filled evening under the stars. We’ll learn about fireflies during our evening educational program! Please bring your own camping equipment if you have camped with us before. The cost is $8.00 per person, children 5 and under are free. The fee helps to support the Jacobsburg Historical Society. Butterflies of Jacobsburg - Saturday, June 30th, 10:00m-12:00pm Join local butterfly enthusiast Bill Grant for this walk through the fields of Jacobsburg in search of these beautiful insects. Participants should wear sturdy hiking shoes. Hat, bottled water, sunscreen, and a camera are recommended. Registration is required. You can also view and register for community programs online at http://events.dcnr.pa.gov/. If you need an accommodation to participate in a program please contact the park office at 610-746-2801 or jacobsburgsp@pa.gov. With at least three days notice, interpreters for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are available for educational programs. 9 In response to our community, the Slate Belt Heat Recovery Center will not discharge any water into local waterways. The project has been redesigned so that all water from the plant’s processes will be transported to permitted wastewater treatment plants for recycling. All wastewater from the plant’s lunchroom and lavatories will be treated by the Pen Argyl Wastewater Treatment Plant.
