DEVELOPMENT PLANS for a
prominent site in Lyttelton have
taken another step forward
with the announcement of a
design competition.
Ohu Developments is calling
for concept designs for a new
building development on the
former Empire Hotel site on
London St.
The winner will receive
$10,000 in prize money with a
second and third prize of $5000
Ohu plans to develop a
mixed-used building, with
Roman-style baths, restaurant,
an apart-hotel, cinema, bar and
co-working spaces.
The aim is to “create a unique
destination to attract people to
Lyttelton,” said
Plenty on the go at Lyttelton Rotary
Lyttelton Rotary Club
member Barry Toomey
talks about the club’s
activities, including a movie
night and restoration of the
Baden Norris walking track
IT IS THE beginning of winter
but Lyttelton Rotary has no plans
of going into hibernation.
We recently had a great night
of fellowship with Riccarton
Rotary at the Lyttelton Fire
Station.
Our guest speaker was former
National Party minister David
Carter who gave us a good idea
of how Parliament operates,
especially as he was the speaker
of the house.
It was a good night to
showcase Lyttelton to other
Christchurch Rotarians,
especially our new fire brigade
building which was an ideal
venue.
As for our work and
involvement in the Lyttelton
community when the weather
improves in spring, Rotary
BIG NIGHT: David Carter, Lyttelton Rotary president Robyn Struthers and Riccarton Rotary president Craig McGregor enjoyed a
night of fellowship at the Lyttelton Fire Station. Lyttelton Rotary plans to hold a fundraiser movie night at the end of July with a
screening of the musical Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.
is planning to embark on the
rejuvenation and restoration of
the Baden Norris walkway that
runs between Oxford St next to
the medical centre and Sumner
Rd.
It was affected badly after
the earthquakes and the native
overgrowth has meant it is
unable to be used.
Working with the city council,
we are hoping to then do some
planting so this track can then
be enjoyed by everyone.
We will then aim to maintain
this asset as an acknowledgment
to the track’s namesake, Baden
Norris, who has been involved in
Lyttelton for many years.
We are also holding a
fundraiser movie night at the
end of July and will be showing
Mamma Mia! Here We Go
Again. If you wish to book
tickets, please get in touch.
Our changeover is coming up
where we will farewell our joint
presidents, Donna Hennan and
Robyn Struthers, and welcome
Brian Reeve to take up the role
for this coming year. Thank
you ladies, you have done an
excellent job over the year.
