Local Issues<br />
Hampton Permitting Process<br />
Mayor Donnie Tuck expressed his appreciation to VPAR for input into City meetings regarding streamlining<br />
Hampton’s permitting process. From conducting enhanced customer service training for permitting staff to<br />
increasing staff through the engagement of contractors, the City intends to improve the experience for<br />
permittees at all levels of the process. More Info Here..<br />
Hampton Zoning Amendments and Recurrent Flooding<br />
Terry O’Neill, Director of Community Development, PPC member Peggy Todd (and Hampton Neighborhood<br />
Commissioner) and VPAR’s Legislative Consultant are meeting on <strong>June</strong> 5 th to discuss best practices for<br />
building better communities in the face of recurrent flooding. The City reached out to your Legislative<br />
Consultant with the request that VPAR provide input to the City.<br />
Ft. Eustis/City of Newport News AICUZ and JLUS<br />
VPAR’s CEO and Legislative Consultant has provided input into the development of Ft. Eustis Air Installation<br />
Compatible Use Zone (AICUZ). Personnel from the installation will be meeting with the VPAR PPC on July<br />
10th to review the details and the language. Staff from the City also will brief the Committee on the recently<br />
approved Ft. Eustis Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) that will help to ensure the installation’s future as an<br />
economic driver in the region, securing (or at least, reducing) it from potential BRAC impacts. An educational<br />
program is in development for VPAR members.<br />
Newport News Rental Inspection Program<br />
Newport News Codes Compliance Director Harold Roach and his team will be meeting with VPAR members<br />
on <strong>June</strong> 21 st to provide an update of the rental inspection program and receive VPAR feedback on potential<br />
challenges and inefficiencies.<br />
