NMMI HEALTH SERVICES FACT SHEET
Please read this letter carefully because it describes the health care available at New Mexico Military Institute.
General Information
The campus Marshall Infirmary has a capacity of 32 beds and the capability of treating cadets for minor illnesses and injuries. A nurse is
on duty 24 hours a day and is available during the school day and for sick call. Morning sick call begins at 7:00 a.m. Monday through
Friday.
Routine medical and dental care should be arranged by you during school breaks with your local provider. Minor illnesses are treated or
referrals are made to Roswell physicians if deemed necessary by the medical staff. There is no charge for an office call or for
confinement at the Infirmary, however, you will be billed for any lab tests or charges incurred from referrals. Prescribed drugs are
charged to the cadet account; copies are available for insurance purposes.
In instances of sudden serious illness or accident, cadets are transported to either Eastern New Mexico Medical Center or Lovelace
Regional Hospital by ambulance.
Accident Insurance
All cadets are covered by an accident policy for the school year June 27, 2012 through May 12, 2013, at the price of $240.00; Spring
Semester only, January 3, 2013 through May 12, 2013 is $112.00. You may purchase extended summer coverage for $78.00, covering
May13, 2013 through July 27, 2013. Applications are available at the Business Office.
Please note this is a supplemental accident policy, not a medical policy. It is not intended to cover all costs but provides excellent benefits
for a nominal cost. For accidents, where expenses for claims are more than $200.00 per accident, you are required to file any other
insurance first. If you do not have other medical coverage, NMMI insurance will be the primary coverage. REMEMBER, THIS IS FOR
ACCIDENTS ONLY. The accident policy does not pay benefits for sickness (see Sickness Insurance).
In order to enroll for this coverage, certain cadet information must be provided to the insurance carrier.
If you receive invoices for medical services which resulted from an accident, please forward them to the NMMI Infirmary immediately
and we will file an insurance claim. Claims must be submitted within 90 days of the accident date.
Sickness Insurance (See attached for new premium amounts starting Fall 2012)
NMMI has a cadet sickness policy available from June 27, 2012 through May 12, 2013; Spring Semester only, January 3, 2013 through
May 12, 2013. You may purchase extended summer coverage for $114.00 that will cover May12, 2013 through July 27, 2013.
Applications are available at the Business Office.
Again, it is not intended to cover all costs, but rather to supplement the family policy. For illness, where expenses for claims are more
than $200.00 per illness, you are required to file any other insurance first. If you do not have other medical coverage, NMMI insurance
will be the primary coverage.
PROOF OF MEDICAL INSURANCE IS REQUIRED FOR ALL CADETS. Proof of medical insurance must be provided to the
Business Office by August 31, 2012 for the Fall Semester. If not provided by this date, you will be charged $351.00 for NMMI Cadet
Sickness Insurance Plan. Spring Semester cadets without proof of insurance by January 31, 2013 will be charged $168.00.
In order to enroll for this coverage, certain cadet information must be provided to the insurance carrier.
Medication
Prescribed medications, regardless of origin, must be turned over to the NMMI Infirmary. Infirmary staff will be available at
matriculation to collect medications. All medications must be controlled and stored at the Infirmary. Misuse, abuse or unauthorized
possession of prescription or over-the-counter drugs may result in immediate suspension.
Charges for medications dispensed by Infirmary staff during the normal care of cadets will be charged to the Cadet Account.
Roswell Health Care Providers
Please respond promptly when invoiced by Roswell health care providers, as we do not want to jeopardize health care for our cadets.
Some of the local providers are requiring a substantial deposit from parents before NMMI cadets are examined. In non-emergency cases,
you will be notified to mail or wire funds for this purpose.
