Athlete of the Week
10 Questions
with Anna Bazell
Anna Bazell is a recent
graduate of Lake Forest High
School and she ran track and
field for the Scouts.
How did you start
running track and
field?
I started because I used
to live in Barrington. In
fifth grade at our elementary
school they implemented
a cross-country
and track program. It was
usually before school, so
I went in before school. I
just stuck with it and I just
love it.
What is your favorite
event to run?
I would say the fourby-four,
because it’s at
the very end of the meet
and it’s the most hyped
up event. Everyone always
lines up on the back
stretch and is always there,
cheering us on. I’ve been
running with the same exact
girls on that relay ever
since I moved here, so it’s
been a lot of fun.
What is the most
challenging part of the
sport?
I think the mentality of
the sport is really hard.
With running, I feel like
the only inhibition is yourself.
When you have a
bad day, or your thoughts
are not positive, it’s really
hard to compete well.
That’s a big thing.
Who is the funniest
person on the team?
Probably, well she
wasn’t on the team this
year, but last year it was
Lauren Garriques. She
would tear up grass in
the middle of the meets
and then start throwing it
around. She was start rehearsing
weird sonnets on
the bus.
What is a memorable
moment from this
season?
I really wanted to break
a minute in the 400, and
that was kind of something
that I wanted to do, but
I’ve never been able to.
Last year, I didn’t have the
best season. Mentally, it
was just really not going to
so well and I kept getting
discouraged. This year, I
ran one minute and I was
really excited.
If you were a super
hero, what super
power would you
have?
I feel like to read minds,
because that’s always a
complicated thing. I always
try and read people
based on their expressions
and their mannerisms. I always
want to know what
people are thinking, but
it’s hard so I try my best to
do that.
If you could travel
anywhere in the
world, where would
you go?
I really want to go to
Ireland. I really want to
study abroad. I don’t know
where yet, maybe Trinity
College.
What is one thing you
want to accomplish off
your bucket list?
I really want to go to one
of the World Cup matches,
like the finals, wherever
it’s being held.
What is one thing you
can’t live without?
Probably my little brother,
that sounds weird. He’s
15, he’s a freshman at the
high school.
If you could have
dinner with anyone,
living or dead, who
would it be?
I’m going to say John
Mayer. I’ve been obsessed
with him since I was little.
His music is awesome and
really intricate, so probably
him.
