That’s a wrap: 424 Scouts cross stage at graduation

When Senior Class
President Emilia Field
took the stage to deliver
her commencement
speech during the Lake
Forest High School graduation
ceremony Saturday,
June 9, she spoke about
the emotional week it has
been.
While the senior class
has been completing final
projects and preparing for
their good-byes, Field told
a story about an encounter
she had at Forest Park
Beach last week.
Last week, a woman
approached Field and
told her that her husband
had received a job in the
area and she was walking
around to see if Lake Forest
would be the best place
to live after their departure
from Denmark. Field
spent 15 minutes talking
to the woman about all
things Lake Forest, but the
woman had one important
question for her: “How is
the high school?”
And as Field was preparing
for graduation, her
response hit her with a mix
of emotions and nostalgia.
“To me that question was
easy. Lake Forest is one of
the best high schools in the
nation,” Field said. “Within
the 15-minute conversation,
I had nothing but
good things to say. And
suddenly it dawned on
me – I had not expressed
my extreme gratitude for
this school that has given
me so much. So, I want

to take this opportunity to
thank the many people that
have had a hand in all our
success.”
She began by thanking
the faculty that has had a
direct impact in the 424
graduating seniors academic
success.
“As much as we wanted
to learn, you wanted us to
understand,” Field said.
“You pushed us to the
highest academic standards
and your desire for
understanding was infectious.
We can’t say thank
you enough for fully preparing
us to enter the next
stage of our life. So, on behalf
of the Class of 2018,
to all the Lake Forest High
School teachers, thank
you.”
She also thanked parents
for all of their support
when it came to academics
and extra curricular activities.
Finally, she thanked
her peers.
“To my peers, we are
the Class of 2018. We
are a class of individuals
whose camaraderie makes
me confident,” Field said.
“We are a class whose
range of different ideas
make me a more thought-
