New Antiques On Central Is Elegant and Spacious

For years and years, since the
early 1990s, there had been two major
antique shops in the AJ’s shopping
center at Camelback Road and Central
Avenue in Phoenix. It was a great
loss to the area and to the fine dealers
involved in those shops when both
closed earlier this year.
The good news is that one of the
locations has been recently opened as
Antiques On Central. The partners
in this elegant shop are Sylvia Wells,
Doris Leis and Cliff Shara, and they
have a great division of labor going into making this a real destination
for quality shopping. With their combined many years
of experience, they were able to use that expertise in filling the
16,000 square foot space with quality dealers. There is a waiting
list of other dealers anxious to have space there.
As a result, you can now find most anything you might be
looking for from: handsome silver pieces, contemporary furniture,
a Victorian Child’s Rocking Music Toy that is all original,
a lolling chair
with the original
upholstery, Pastime
Pleasures
with vintage
sports memorabilia,
designer
pieces, china
and lots of fine
antique furniture
to country and
lodge items.
What was

very appealing to me during my recent visit was finding a spacious
and gracious shop that enhances each and every item. It
made me feel that I was in an extra special setting and made my
shopping experience even nicer.
I always think of where these true antiques might have been
in the past and what kind of stories they could tell us. I met
several of the dealers while exploring Antiques on Central on
a recent Saturday afternoon. They were tending to their ‘shops
within the shop.’ For some dealers, an added benefit to being
part of this new venture is the enjoyment
of coming down to the
shop and being there to answer
questions and visit with the customers.
Antiques on Central is much
larger inside than it appears from
the outside. As you walk into
the newly decorated shop, you
will find the very grand checkout
counter extending to your
right. From there, you can go
off in one of several directions
and wander in and out of various
rooms and large spaces. The flow

from one dealer to the next is almost unnoticeable, and there is
lots of room to enjoy the experience—which I hope you have
been inspired to have very soon!
