wedding dress online
She said To Cherish also sold
vales, bridesmaid dresses, shoes
and flower girls dresses.
Staff gave professional advice,
fitted the dresses, stored the gown
and pressed it, made alterations,
gave advice, and more, she said.
“We even offer full consultation
where we teach the bridesmaids
how to dress the bride, how to
walk down the isle, how to hold
the flowers, how to go to the toilet.
It’s a whole experience, it’s not
just about buying a dress.”
Consumer New Zealand consumer
advisor Maggie Edwards
said people who bought dresses
from overseas online websites
were not covered by the Consumer
Guarantees Act.
She said people needed to check
the terms and conditions of the
website, and do their research
beforehand.
Consumer NZ did get a lot of
complaints about people having
problems when buying wedding
dresses online from overseas, Ms
Edwards said.
“But we also get complaints
about buying wedding dresses in
New Zealand.”
She said at the end of the day,
it was a choice, and the decision
was up to the individual.
Davis Bridal owner Carolyn
I DO: Don’t spoil your happy
day by having a wedding
dress which isn’t up to
expectation.
Rushton said while she had heard
of some brides getting lucky, others
did not.
“We had one girl who bought
three online and never got the
right size so she came in and
bought one from us. We’ve had
girls wanting us to alter their
dresses. Some of them just about
have to be remade.
“By the time they have to pay
for it to fit them it runs up the
cost.”
Number of marriages in
Canterbury last year
National statistics for
2017:
There have been about
20,000 marriages each
year since 1992, but the
figure is steadily decreasing,
as are divorces. The
median age of those
getting married had also
risen. Last year it was
32 for men and 31 for
women. The median age
Roading fund takes a hit
• By Julia Evans
THE ROAD maintenance fund
has taken a hit, as budgets are
juggled to clean up after last
year’s flooding.
The city council Infrastructure,
Transport and Environment
Committee bi-monthly
transport report said $1.275
million had been shifted to pay
for the clean up of rainfall and
flooding last July, August and
September.
“The budget for maintenance
works has been reduced has
been by $1.275 million to balance
against the extra cost of the
emergency works events across
the city and Banks Peninsula
• By Bridget Rutherford
IT COST the Government
$78,893 to review the design
of the Metro Sports Facility,
including investigating whether
it could be combined with the
multi-purpose arena.
Minister for Greater Christchurch
Regeneration Megan
Woods said it was money well
spent.
Dr Woods said $61,343 was
spent on consultant services to
do a “high-level investigation”
in July 2017 and across Banks
Peninsula in August and September,”
the report said.
On July 22, a state of emergency
was declared in Christchurch
as heavy rainfall caused
the Heathcote River to burst its
banks and flooded homes.
In August and September,
roads and banks in Banks
Peninsula were also damaged by
significant rainfall.
The last time that much rain
had fallen in Christchurch by
September was in 1975.
The money was moved to pay
for clearing slips, re-instating
bank support and repairing
scour damage to unsealed roads,
the report said.
Metro review cost $78k
on whether the Metro Sports
and the multi-purpose arena
could be combined.
A further $17,550 was spent on
quantity survey services providing
an assessment of the costs
and potential savings from the
options available for both facilities,
she said.
“This process was outstanding
value for money. We spent
$78,000 to save over $50 million
which was able to be taken off
the cost of the Metro Sports
Facility,” Dr Woods said.
