Sports and Technology Update<br />
Sports<br />
Sport is an important part of our school life<br />
and students are given many opportunities to<br />
participate in the large variety of sports we offer.<br />
Mastering the ability to work as a team and<br />
learning to be a good sport is a significant part<br />
of being a Kirkwood student.<br />
This term, our pupils have been involved with the<br />
Cross Country, Intermediate School’s Duathlon<br />
and have enjoyed the start of our winter sports<br />
programme which includes: Netball, Football,<br />
Rugby, Hockey and Table Tennis. As well as<br />
these, we will participate in Athletics, Swimming,<br />
Basketball, Korfball, Rhythmic and Artistic<br />
Gymnastics.<br />
Our classes also compete for the Kirkwood<br />
Sports Shield. This involves classes in Year 7<br />
and Year 8 playing each other in various sports<br />
for the right to hold the shield.<br />
Technology<br />
Technology education at Kirkwood explores how, beginning with a need or opportunity, new products are developed<br />
and how new developments impact on our world. Students gain knowledge and skills essential for all kinds of<br />
careers and for everyday life.<br />
As well as experiencing a variety of technology classes, our students are able to choose special interest technology<br />
extension classes including coding arduino microchips, robotics, 3D printing, special engineering projects, Maori<br />
carving and food competitions.<br />
Hard Materials - Students work with wood, metal and plastics to develop a range of hands-on skills.<br />
Foods Room - Special breakfast lessons encourage students to make healthy choices.<br />
Soft Materials - Students follow a design process to create original projects.<br />
Electronics - To learn the technological process students work with electronic components.<br />
