readers, I've no doubt. We even take a look at
document accessibility issues that have plagued
businesses need to be very careful what they do with online content - and
John Jageurs
even PDF files - if they aren't to fall foul of the requirement to ensure that
content is accessible to all, including blind and partially-sighted users. With
one in thirty people in the UK apparently living with some sight loss, you
could be shutting out a lot of your customers.
Elsewhere Nuxeo's David Jones discusses the many challenges created by
legacy systems, and how a Content Services approach could help. Content
Services Platforms (CSPs) can connect disparate systems in a manner that
enables organisations to continue to gain value from legacy systems and
content repositories, he explains: "End users can now access customerbilling
details once locked away in the legacy ERP system from their CRM
application; business users can build custom dashboards based on the
financial information stored within that same ERP, but now using modern
visual reporting tools as opposed to yesterday's text-based reports."
For many businesses - especially large corporations - their legacy systems
have become almost an untouchable icon, impossible to improve or replace
without massive disruption and potential downtime. And the sheer risk
involved makes many organisations decide that those systems must simply
be left as they are, no matter the cost to business efficiency. But once an
organisation's users can access information in a way that makes sense to
them, perhaps those legacy systems will stop being a hindrance to the
business and instead become a real asset once again.
Finally, we are getting closer every day to this year's DM Awards - I know
it's a long time till November, but you'd be surprised how quickly that time
goes, and the last thing you want is to suddenly realise that you didn't get
round to nominating your favourite supplier, partner or even your own
company, and now it's too late! But don't worry; you've not missed the boat
just yet: nominations open in June, so keep an eye on the website
(www.dmawards.com).
