Thanks to help from area coaches and the eyes of 22nd Century Media staff, the best players were selected from six high schools — Glenbrook North (GBN), Glenbrook South (GBS), Highland Park (HP), Lake Forest (LF), Loyola Academy (LA) and New Trier (NT) — in our coverage area. FIRST TEAM Catcher Cam Redding, NT senior • The St. Louis signee hit .404 this season. He finished the year with 26 RBI, an onbase percentage that hovered above .500 and threw out 14-of- 21 baserunners. Third Base David Rubin, GBN senior • Rubin followed up a stellar hockey season with a Team 22 First Team nod after hitting .321 with a .506 slugging percentage, .963 OPS and 23 RBI in a historic GBN season. Outfield Trey Torian, LA senior • The George Washington-bound leadoff man scored 34 runs, drove in 26, had seven doubles, five home runs, 21 steals and an OPS of 1.029 in a historic run for the Ramblers this season. Pitcher Jack Garibaldi, GBN senior • The Spartans looked to the righty pitcher with a good curveball to be their ace. The CSL All- Conference pitcher went 7-3 with a 2.56 ERA, one save and struck out 49. First Base Anthony Calarco, NT senior • The Northwestern University signee had a monster year at the plate, hitting 11 home runs, driving in 37 with an OPS of 1.310 this season. He even helped New Trier out on the mound. Shortstop Caleb Durbin, LF senior • Durbin put up quite the season and earned his secondconsecutive First Team nod. He scored 41 runs, had an OPS of 1.101 and was caught stealing just twice in 25 attempts. Outfield Chris Heywood, GBN senior • The senior made his only year at GBN a worthwhile one, hitting for a .379 average, .496 OBP, .600 SLG, 1.096 OPS, 28 RBI and topped it off with three home runs. Pitcher Jacob Newman, GBS senior • The Rutgers University signee performed with a big arm went 3-2 and struck out 52 for the Titans this season. Newman was stellar in his final game, striking out seven. Second Base Michael Snow, GBS senior • Snow earned a CSL All-Conference nod after hitting .333 and driving in 14. The senior also had an OPS of .905 and helped lead the Titans in a season filled with progress. Outfield Jake Novak, LA junior • The Rambler had a big season for the dynamic Loyola offense, hitting .304, with 26 runs scored, 33 RBI, 11 doubles, five home runs and had an OPS of 1.055 and a slugging percentage of .617. Designated Hitter Jason Vrbancic, LA senior • The University of Chicago-bound catcher played a big role in the Ramblers’ offense this season. He hit .333, drove in 37 RBI, had eight doubles and added five home runs. Pitcher Drew Gorski, NT senior • Gorski is the latest talented Trevian pitcher to be named to Team 22. He really caught fire down the stretch, finishing with an 8-1 record with 55 strikeouts and a 1.70 ERA. SECOND TEAM Catcher Daniel Spencer, GBN senior • GBN’s rock behind the plate hit for a .318 average, drove in 15 runs and had an OPS of .818. First Base George Korompilas, GBN freshman • Korompilas made quite the debut by hitting .340, racking up a .893 OPS and finishing with 18 RBI. Second Base Andrew Gough, LF senior • The senior had a .320 average, a .409 OBP, .450 SLG, drove in 20. Third Base John Sakos, HP senior • Sakos hit eight doubles, drove in 21, had a .533 slugging percentage, .937 OPS and nine steals. Shortstop Noah Shutan, HP senior • Shutan, who also pitched, scored 35 runs, had an OPS of 1.029 and struck out 52 on the mound. HONORABLE MENTION Outfield Drew Golde, LF senior • Golde holds his place on our second team list after hitting .326, scoring 20 runs and compiling an OPS of .828. Tyler Gussis, HP senior • The Giants all-around producer and CSL All-Conference player had an OPS of 1.036, 31 RBI and an OBP of .483. Ryan Lee, LF senior • Lee racked up a .451 OBP, .869 OPS and .481 SLG, 11 RBI and scored 19 runs. Pitchers Ben Wagner, LA senior • Wagner broke out this season going 9-0 in 11 games, struck out 38. Michael Vallone, LF sophomore • Vallone put his name on the map this season, going 4-1 with an ERA of 1.286 and struck out 35. Ben Harkey, GBN senior • Harkey went 3-1, had a 1.60 ERA and struck out 47 batters. FIRST TEAM Catcher Winnie Tomsheck, GBS senior • .250 BA, 12 RBI, 8 R, .333 OBP; the Titans catcher moved up to the First Team after a strong senior campaign. Shortstop Nora Conway, LA senior • .521 BA, 50 H, 40 RBI, 44 R, 6 HR, 1.445 OPS; Conway ended her senior year with a perfect four-year run on our First Team after she led the Ramblers in every aspect of the game. KK Raymond, LA freshman • .481 BA, 50 H, 11 2B, 19 RBI, 29 R, 1.147 OPS; Raymond joined her teammates on the First Team list after a breakout freshman season with the Ramblers. First base Jen Kaufman, HP junior • .405 BA, 6 RBI, 25 R, .928 OPS; Kaufman’s performance this season landed her on the Central Suburban League All-Conference list, the only one from her team, and led the Giants offense this year. Third base Marisa Michi, LA sophomore • .521 BA, 43 H, 39 RBI, 26 R, 5 HR, 1.391 OPS; Michi provided another reliable bat in the batting order, earning her an All-GCAC nod. Summer Rocha, RD junior • .362 BA, 25 H, 14 R, 12 2B, 1.016 OPS; Rocha provided consistency in the outfield and at the plate for the Panthers. Second base Emily Molloy, LA sophomore • .337 BA, 30 H, 25 RBI, 42 R, .928 OPS; Molloy had a tremendous season with the Ramblers and helped rack up runs for a highscoring offense. Outfield Jon’nah Williams, LF senior • .453 BA, .571 OBP, 15 RBI, 35 R, 2 HR, 3 DP, 5 TP; this four-year first team player covered more ground than anyone in the outfield for the Scouts and will contribute to UW- Whitewater’s team next season. Pitcher Lauren Mendelson, GBN senior • 175.2 IP, 180 K, 2.71 ERA, .341 BA, 18 RBI, 16 R; this Spartan led her team on the mound and pitched two no-hitters during the season. It’s no surprise she earned All-CSL honors. HONORABLE MENTION Lydia Taylor, HP sophomore P; Hannah Matthews, HP senior C; Madie Kapsimalis, GBS freshman SS; Beth Fisher, NT sophomore SS; Campbell Flower, HP senior 3B; Devin Davidson, HP senior OF. SECOND TEAM Catcher Kathryn McDarrah, RD freshman • .387 BA, 24 H, 14 RBI, 13 R, .486 OBP; the Panthers freshman played solid defensively behind the plate and skillfully hit in front of the plate. First base Kathryn Kinsella, LA junior • .329 BA, 26 H, 8 2B, 25 RBI, 18 R, .881 OPS; Kinsella was another Rambler weapon this season with solid plate appearances throughout the season. Second base Lauren Cole, GBN senior • .246 BA, 8 RBI, 5 R, .271 OBP, .281 SLG; defensively, Cole helped keep LA at bay this year and held the team to two runs in the Spartans’ regional semifinal loss. Shortstop Sydney Martens, LF junior • .448 BA, 19 RBI, 16 R, .515 OBP, 10 DP; Martens had a great year at the plate with powerful hits to help the Scouts offensively this season. Third base Kendall Barrett, RD senior • .472 BA, 28 RBI, 20 R, 9 2B, 1.228 OPS; Barrett showed off her offensive skills, hitting nine doubles and drove in 28 of her teammates. Outfield Tessa Bojan, HP senior • .319 BA, 14 RBI, 17 R, .507 SLG, .41 OBP; Bojan provided senior leadership and steady play for the Giants at both the plate and in the outfield. Elisa Nettesheim, NT senior • .319 BA, 18 RBI, 8 2B, .507 SLG; Nettensheim helped the Trevians offense in a big way and was a trusted presence in the outfield. Maggie Baumstark, GBS freshman • .380 BA, 15 RBI, 18 SB, 2 HR; The Titans speedster stole 18 bases in her first year with the team. Pitcher Alexis Rocha, LA senior • 90.1 IP, 96 K, 4.03 ERA, .311 BA, 19 RBI, .763 OPS; the senior pitcher reached almost triple-digit strikeouts for her team this season.
