My Malay pantun writing (though not of professional standards)
never fails to impress and are good topics for conversation.
It has that kind of effect similar to hearing a Malay or Indian
speak Mandarin.
While such a curiosity continues to tickle and impresses many of us, I
must say Malaysians in general are quite accepting of cultural differences.
I believe such tolerance did not come about overnight but it was through
much nurturing in shaping our minds to understand and accept that.
Over the last decade or so, budget airlines have opened the world to
many people and travelling is one of the most effective ways to facilitate
open-mindedness. A seasoned traveller is often able to view situations in
many different perspectives.
And in conjunction with Georgetown World Heritage City Day,
professional photographer David Loh shows us, in his gallery of
photographs, the different perspectives, from the ground and from
the air, to Georgetown, Penang, one of the most photographed tourist
destinations in the country.
We have also discovered that food is the most effective medium in
bringing people together to appreciate their differences and celebrate
their similarities just like those between Pad Thai and Char Kway
Teow in The Face Off.
Here’s a toast (with home brewed kopi-O of
course) to the everlasting good blend of Malaysians
with their colourful cultures and traditions.
