Pilgrimage Island
The Alaminos City has just built on Pilgrimage
Island a 55 foot statue of Jesus that stands on
top of the hill overlooking the 100 islands. 36 year
old Sariel Armando Ancheta was commissioned to
build this magnificent edifice that was sculptured
where it stands. Materials were brought over by
banca from the mainland and steps were first
built to the top, then workers carried the bags of
cement sand and other materials to the top of the
mountain where the work was completed in April
this year with the blessing ceremony at sunrise on
the 1st of May. The complete statue was done
by hand and is a standing testimonial of the great
work done by this very talented artist whose home
town is Anda Pangasinan. When ABW spoke to
Sariel, the shy unassuming man was quite humble
about his achievements that should be shown to
the world. A visit to this island is a must do on your
list, and if your luck and timing are in, you might
just be able to meet and speak with the creator of
this magnificent statue.
