Bletchley Park & IWM Duxford
Visiting two destinations which played such a huge part in
our wartime history, this short break has proved to be
hugely enjoyed by our customers and will appeal to those
with a healthy interest in Britain’s history.
In the past few years the story of the top secret code breaking facility
at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire has been thrust in to the public
consciousness with a string of television dramas and a superb film
starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

IWM Duxford is home to an
impressive collection of over two
hundred aircraft as well as tanks,
military vehicles and maritime craft.
Explore the former RAF fighter
station that was used during both
the First and Second World Wars.
Itinerary
DAY 1: After being collected from your
local pick point around 7.00/7.30am we
head up to IWM Duxford in
Cambridgeshire with a stop midmorning
on route. We arrive at Duxford
late morning where you are free to
explore this impressive museum. There
are a number of exhibitions tracing its
history including The 1940’s Operation
Room, Historic Duxford – where you
can discover how the men and women
lived at Duxford, meet the skilled
engineers who restore the aircraft plus
get up close to some of the most iconic
aircraft including the Lancaster, Spitfire,
Concorde and Vulcan. Entrance price
included. Late afternoon we head to
our hotel in Northampton.
Holiday Inn Northampton
Set in leafy manicured gardens, the
Holiday Inn Northampton is just
2.5 miles from Northampton town
centre and is decorated in a
modern, clean décor.
Relax with a drink before dinner in
the comfortable lounge bar with
Wi-Fi access in the public areas of
the hotel.
There is an extensive hot buffet
breakfast served in the chic
Brasserie and in the evening, there
will be a choice of menu for dinner –
served buffet style.
The spacious bedrooms are
comfortably furnished with a
contemporary style and offer
en-suite bathrooms, Flat screen TV,
hairdryer and tea/coffee making

DAY 2: Fascinating day out as we head
to Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes for a
visit to the famous WWII code breaking centre. Seeing one of the Enigma
Machines, including the rare ‘Abwehr G312’, is undoubtedly a highlight of a
busy day out at Bletchley Park, but there is much more than machines in a visit
to this historic site. Check out the tales of spies and strategic deception.
There are plenty of different activities and exhibitions, from wartime toys to
working computers, a wartime mini cinema to an outstanding Churchill
collection. We allow around 6 hours at Bletchley – entrance included. We depart
for home around 3.30pm. Arriving back in the local area around 6.30pm.

Itinerary
DAY 1: After being collected from your
local pick up point around 7.30am, we
have comfort stops as required. Arriving
late afternoon with time before dinner.
DAY 2: In the morning we head out
for an excursion to Ripley Castle.
This impressive 700 year old castle is
located in the beautiful village of Ripley
close to Harrogate. We have arranged
for a guided tour with plenty of extra
time for lunch and to explore the walled
gardens, lakeside walk, pleasure
grounds and deer park. Entrance and
tour included. Afterwards we head to
Knaresborough. This lovely old town
has a warren of medieval streets and
stone staircases that weave their way
up and down the hill. Head to the
Waterside for lovely views of the Nidd
Gorge and the railway viaduct.
DAY 3: A day at leisure in Harrogate
and there is plenty to see. Whether
you want to visit the Spa Baths or
enjoy some great shopping in the
historic streets, Harrogate is a ‘happy’
place to be! Why not spoil yourself at
Bettys Tearoom – beware – you may
have to book!
DAY 4: One of the highlights of the
holiday as we are joined by our local
guide for a tour of the wonderful
Yorkshire Dales. This is a memorable
experience – absolutely stunning
countryside with charming villages.
Cairn Hotel HHH
The 3* Cairn Hotel is an impressive,
grand Victorian style hotel built at
the height of the towns popularity
as a Spa Town and set in four acres
of grounds. The hotel offers good
standards of accommodation,
service and cuisine.
With an excellent location in the
town, the main shopping area,
Royal Pump Rooms and parks are
all located within a 10 minute walk.
The beautifully refurbished lounge,
foyer and bar area with its classically
styled decor and leather sofas,
offers a warm and inviting place to
relax. The 135 bedrooms all have
en-suite facilities, colour television,
direct dial telephone, tea & coffee
making facilities and trouser press.
Meals are served in The Windsor
Restaurant which offers a choice of
menu served by chefs at the buffet,
using local produce where possible.

DAY 5: Enjoy a final Full English Breakfast before we head home. Comfort stops
and a main stop for lunch during the day before arriving back in the local area
around 5.00pm.
