#023 • JULY 13 TO 27, 2018 The Word on the Street haddonfield.today | 3 Eating contests abound at farmers’ markets and block parties during the summertime. Which would you enter – a pie-eating contest or an ice cream-eating contest? Audubon’s ANDY McCABE said, “Definitely not ice cream. My brainfreeze days are well behind me.” Andy would happily chow down on “pies made with local blueberries or peaches.” GARY GASKILL of Absecon would choose pie over ice cream to “avoid the brain-freeze.” Apple pie would be his choice, “although I could probably eat more blueberry pie, since they’re smaller.” “In my surfer days in California,” recalled KRISTIN REPENNING, “I worked as a waitress in a restaurant that served an awesome peanut butter pie. It’s been my favorite ever since.” Audubon’s JIM REPENNING would love to “make a dramatic show of it, scarfing down a big blueberry pie and getting all messy.” CORY FULTON of Cherry Hill can remember his first taste of Dutch Apple pie. “It was right after basic training, in San Antonio TX,” he said. “I’ve been hooked ever since, so you could say I’m a Pie Guy!” JASMIN BAN of Cherry Hill is a loyal customer of Brain Freeze Ice Cream Parlor in Mt. Laurel. “I love their chocolate,” she said, “so that would be my eating-contest choice. In any case, I hate pie.”
