TEACHER’S GUIDE
This activity book is designed to enhance pupils listening, speaking, reading and writing skills
through fun enrichment activities. The activities are designed with a focus on developing
pupil’s fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination through variety of pencil activities. The
fine motor skills required in writing involve good hand-eye coordination. These skills can be
developed through prewriting activities such as:
Scribbling: Start with random scribble and then follow with scribbling patterns such
as continuous lines, zig zag pattern and wavy pattern using various media such as
crayons, colour pencils and marker pens. This helps the pupils to develop fluent and
relaxed movements.
Colouring: Shading using different colours. Guide the pupils to colour horizontal,
vertical and slanted lines. The drawing of circles should be taught later. Ensure that the
pupils colour within the boundaries given. Colouring activity should be in sequence
as in always start with images such as large shapes and slowly introduce images with
increasing complexity.
Channeling: Drawing a line between two boundaries. The boundaries serve as a guide
that the pupils must follow.
Tracing: Joining lines between adjacent points. Begin with simple tracing activities
such as tracing straight lines and then introduce more complex lines.
Copying: Writing or drawing the given letter or pattern.
This book also helps
to develop phonemic
awareness which is the ability
to listen and manipulate basic
sounds in a word. This is done
through simple listening activities
that can be conducted before
starting a pencil activity. Example
of activities are rhyming sounds,
rhyming word pairs and spot the
initial and ending sounds.
This book is complete with fun
enrichment activities which also
encourage higher order thinking skills
(HOTS). Each fun activity will also promote
creative thinking of the pupils.
HOTS
QR code feature is also present in
this book whereby the code can be
scanned to get a video or audio that
could help make the lesson more
interesting and interactive.
