Delivering a tribute at the funeral service of her husband at the International Conference Centre, Accra, the former second lady said she was shocked at the love shown by the same people who constantly maligned and berated her husband. An enraged Mrs Amissah- Arthur, who was seething with amazement , described her husband as a “normal politician” who had been her rock in life. “Over the last few weeks, I have been amazed at the number of people who have come to show appreciation and I ask myself: ‘Is this Ghana?’ Are all these people in Ghana because of the maligning, the lies, the treachery, the wickedness, the mischievousness? “I ask myself: Is this Ghana? I ask myself is this my own husband that you have come to say tribute to? And today, I ask the same question: Did people really know my husband? Did they take time to know him? The false accusations, the lies, the maligning, did they know him? My dearest • Late former Vice President Kwasi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur and wife Matilda Amissah-Arthur Kwesi, your children and I knew you and we cherish you.” The 67-year-old former Governor of the Bank of Ghana died on June 29 after collapsing during a workout session at the Airforce Gym. He was buried on Friday, July 27, 2018, at the Military Cemetery at Burma Camp, Accra after his remains were laid in state at the foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Thursday, where former ministers of state, other politicians and a government delegation led by Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo filed the remains to pay their last respects. The man Amissah- Arthur Amissah-Arthur became the sixth Vice President of Ghana from August 6, 2012 following his vetting by Parliament 12 days after the then Vice President John Dramani Mahama had assumed the presidency on July 24 following the sudden death of President John Atta Mills on that day. He had been the Governor of the Bank of Ghana since 2009 till he was nominated by President Mahama to be his vice a week after Mahama himself had been sworn in and remained in the position until January 6, 2017 when their party, the National Democratic Congress, had to hand over power to the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party administration following its defeat in the December 7, 2016 elections. Economics and consultancy Amissah-Arthur was a research assistant at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research from 1974 to 1975. He later joined the Economics Department of the University of Ghana as a teaching assistant from 1977 to 1978, going on to become an assistant lecturer in 1979. He lectured at the Department of Economics at the university from 1980 to 1988 and left to be a lecturer at the Department of Economics, Anambra State College of Education, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria (from August 1981 – July 1983). He went into politics until 1997 when he worked as a consultant for the World Bank in The Gambia. He also served as a consultant for the Netherlands government education project in Ghana. He later worked as Senior Economist for the Sigma One Corporation in Ghana from 1998 to 2000. During 2001 and 2002, he was on an assignment for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. Politics From 1983 to 1986, Amissah- Arthur entered politics and served as a special assistant to the Secretary of Finance and Economic Planning, Kwesi Botchwey, in the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) government. Subsequently, he became Deputy Secretary for Finance in the PNDC government from February 1986 to March 1993. From April 1993, he continued as the Deputy Minister for Finance in the Rawlings government following the establishment of constitutional rule until March 1997. Amissah-Arthur was appointed as Governor of the Bank of Ghana in October 2009 by President Atta Mills and held this position until August 6, 2012, when he became Vice-President of Ghana following the death of Atta Mills. Govt names Moree SHS afterlate Amissah-Arthur THE MOREE Senior High School has been renamed Kwesi Amissah-Arthur SHS to immortalise the vice president under the John Mahama administration. The second cycle institution is located within the hometown of the former governor of the Central Bank. In his tribute at the funeral of Mr Amissah-Arthur at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday, 27 July 2018, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said the government opted to rename the school in consultation with the family of the late vice president. Ahead of the funeral, the youth in the Abura- Aseibu Kwamankese District of the Central Region called on the government to re-christen the school after Mr Amissah-Arthur. According to the youth, the decision is the surest way of immortalising the memory of the late vice president. The late Amissah- Arthur, the youth who operate under the umbrella of ‘Young Democrats Movement of Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese’ explained, was indeed instrumental in the construction of the school, thus rewarding his sweat even in his grave. The late Veep, they added, had indeed paid his dues in ensuring development in the area, including coming to the rescue of the said school anytime the need arose, and as such called for the renaming as a sign of appreciation to the departing Veep.

According to the media personality, who is spearheading the ‘Dzifa Gray and Friends’, a networking event, though most youth in Ghana and Africa have become very enterprising, there is the need for them to challenge themselves to do more in order to rescue Africa from being tag impoverish. In an interview with the DAILY HER- ITAGE, Gray said “African youth are currently doing very well by combining education and entrepreneurship, which is gradually making them financially stable. This, indeed, has reduced and saved some social issues.” The second edition of the Dzifa Gray and Friends networking event, which took place on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Kikibees Restaurant/Lounge Bar at East Legon in Accra, inspired, motivated and gave attendees the opportunity to network with some personalities in the industry. Speaking about her goals for the organizing the event, Miss Gray said, “the goals of the event were for attendees to learn from more experienced entrepreneurs and investors; build useful contacts and get ideas; and to help those who, one day in their life, might want to transition from the profit to the non-profit world.” The second event, which promised to be bigger and an improvement on the maiden edition, lived up to its expectation thanks to the assistance of mainstream speakers for the twosession programme such as Madam Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong (Channel Manager, Joy Prime); Mr. Kwaku Asare Ofosuhene (Sales and Marketing Consultant); Mr. Peter Richie (Actor, Insurance Consultant, Ambassador-Graft Foundation, MD-Pegdkom Limited); and Dr. Joyce Akumaa Dongotey-Padi, aka Akumaa Mama Zimbi, (Broadcast Journalist & Executive Director, Mama Zimbi Foundation (MZF). Others were and Mrs. Ethel A. Marfo (Founder, CEO Junior Shapers Africa); Mrs. Baisiwa Dowuona Hammond (TV Host/Founder & Chair – Pumpkins Foundation); Mr. Michael Mensa-Bonsu (CEO, RED Communications & Chief Editor Agoo Magazine); Mr. Samuel Anim Addo (CEO, Gyan Investments Ghana Limited); and Dr. Louisa Satekla (Dental Surgeon, CEO of Denkyi African Sole, Humanitarian). The rest were Dr. Williams Anarfi Sarpong (CEO, WASK Group of Companies); Ms. Dorothy Amuah (CEO, Chic Optique & Founder Dorothy’s Hope Breast Cancer Foundation); Ms. Victoria Naa Shika Quaye (CEO, NaaViq Company Limited); and Ms. Zynab Ayesha Passah (Host of the A Show & Events Consultant/Planner, XYZ Events). Guest speakers included Ms. Precious Kyei Bonsu (Entrepreneur/Publisher & Editor In Chief, Treasure Kids Newspaper); Mr. Adeyemi Adebayo Yemmeybaba (Celebrity Blogger/Online Writer); Ms. ElinamAmeyo, aka Eli Kharis, (Broadcast Journalist, GHone TV (EIB Network)); Mrs. Zenobia Akua Arnumu (a trader); and Mr. Wisdom Edward Dzotsi (Civil Engineer, Events MC). The guest speakers were all presented with citations of honour in recognition of their outstanding dedication and professionalism in their various chosen fields of work. The event was divided into morning and afternoon sessions with a special kids play zone area created for parents to bring their kids and have fun. There was also Vendor segment for businesses to have direct contact with their customers. According to the CEO of Dzifa Gray Creations, Ms Gray, “through this event attendees had the opportunity to market their businesses and themselves and best of all create connections with the people they met. “This event was also all about mutual benefits. How could one offer a service or help another? There would be times when you might need help or advice, and you might want to have built a strong network. More importantly young entrepreneurs who get to attend this event get to learn from more experienced entrepreneurs and investors as well build useful contacts.” The event was organized by Dzifa Gray Creations and Smylz Multimedia in collaboration with Ghana Mompreneurs Club and was hosted by Ms Gray. The event was supported by Sonarya Fun Field, Flash Africa, Kare Products, Treasure Kids, NaaViq Company Limited, Mega Mac Stage Effects, Time Square Events, Fruit Daze, Agoo Magazine and Aya Ushering Service. The attendees unanimously said that they were excited, motivated and inspired by what they experienced at the event. •Dzifa Gray •Patapaa Patapaa to unearth music talents at Agona Swedru AGONA SWEDRU-BASED artiste, Patapaa, is set to organise a monthly music concert at Agona Swedru in the Central Region dubbed ‘Agona to the World’. The concert is aimed at unearthing music talents in the municipality. The musical concert, in collaboration with Golden Star FM, would be held on the first Saturday of every month, beginning August 4, 2018 and would give authentic, talented and potential singers and rappers a platform to exhibit their talents and readiness for the music industry. It would have judges, including DJ Moses, DJ Fiifi Dennis, DJ Kwame Kay, and DJ Poppa, who would award marks to outstanding artistes. At the end of the show every month, four artistes would be signed by the ‘pride of Swedru’ (Patapaa) to enable them to record songs with top artistes, including Mr Eazi, Article Wan, and AMG Medikal. The four artistes to be picked every month would be provided with music beats by sound engineers, namely King ODC, Willis Beat, Rhythm Boss, and Dr Ray. Patapaa told the GNA in an interview that the exercise was also in support of the National Sanitation Day Exercise, as it would begin with a clean-up exercise in the morning in the various communities. He said he was determined to help the talented youth in Agona Swedru who are into music to also succeed. Patapaa said he was grateful to God for his achievements so far, hence his decision to also help the people who are willing to excel in the music industry. The ‘One Corner’ hit maker, who got into mainstream music in 2017 after he performed the song at the Agona Swedru Akwambo Festival, is currently one of the hottest artistes in the country. In his one year in the music industry, he has won the heart of many Ghanaians, having released hit songs like ‘Na bon’, ‘Akwaaba’ and ‘Pozo’ .
