AMBAVILAS PALACE
Falling as the second most famous attraction in
India (Taj Mahal is the first), Ambavilas Palace –
also known as Mysore Palace – has a complex that
houses 12 major Hindu temples. The palace also
showcases an Indo-Saracenic architecture which is
an amalgamation of Hindu, Mughal, Rajput, and
Gothic styles.

JAGANMOHAN
PALACE
The Jaganmohan Palace is famous
for being the Wadiyar royal family’s
alternative home when a fire burnt
down Ambavilas Palace. Built in
traditional Hindu architecture, the
mouldings on the pillars in this
palace boast religious motifs, while
the interiors showcase the
fascinating artwork of temples
including murals painted in a style
that has come to be known as the
Mysore School of Painting. One of
the walls also bears the Wadiyar
family tree, while one of the most
mesmerising attractions is the
wooden doors that have carvings of
Dashavatar, the ten incarnations of
the Hindu god Vishnu.
JAYALAKSHMI VILAS
MANSION
Originally built for princess
Jayalakshmi Ammani of the
Wadiyar family, Jayalakshmi
Vilas Mansion now stands as
a heritage building in the
University of Mysore. This
majestic mansion underwent
renovations between 2002–
2006, turning it into a museum
that’s full of beguiling artefacts.
