Madison-Plains hires two new building principals
Madison-Plains Local Schools hired two buildinglevel
administrators on July 9. Michelle Teis is the new
junior/senior high school principal. Max Lallathin is the
new assistant principal for the elementary and intermediate
buildings. Teis and Lallathin replace administrators
who left the district for positions elsewhere.
Teis was one of approximately 25 applicants for the
junior/senior high school principal position. She
emerged as the top choice after committees of teachers,
students, parents, administrators, and school board
members conducted two rounds of interviews.
An educator with more than 20 years of experience,
Teis has taught in the Miami Trace School District for
the past 16 years, most recently as a seventh-grade
math teacher. She also has served as a coach.
A native of northeast Ohio, Teis earned her bachelors’
degree from Wilmington College and her master’s
degree in educational administration from Concordia
University. After concluding her undergraduate studies,
Teis substitute taught for a year, worked for Tuslaw
Local Schools for six years, then made the move to
Miami Trace.
While at Trace, Teis was a member of the building
and district-level leadership teams and one of the original
members of the district’s Ohio Improvement
Process Team.
“Michelle has been a leader at Miami Trace, both formally,
through the committees she has been on, and informally
as someone people seek out for advice,” said
Madison-Plains superintendent Chad Eisler. “She has
a dynamic personality that is infectious, which draws
people to her. She understands curriculum, instruction
and assessment, and she will also bring a fair, firm and
consistent approach to discipline in the building.”
About the job, Teis said, “I’m excited to be a part of
the Madison-Plains community and work with such a
dedicated staff at Madison-Plains Junior/Senior High
School. My hope is to continue to grow through high expectations,
create strong community relationships, all
while maintaining a student-focused approach to learning.
Madison Plains Local Schools is poised to do amazing
things in the near future, and I am humbled to be
able to be a part of the future of the Eagles.”
Teis received a two-year contract with a salary of
$85,000.
Lallathin joins the district from his most recent post
as interim principal at Licking Heights West Elementary
School, where he served for the second half of last
school year. Previously, Lallathin was an elementary/middle school
principal for ECOT (Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow), a position
he held for six-and-a-half years. He also served as an assistant principal
at Waggoner Road Junior High School in Reynoldsburg and
as a principal at Eastland Performance Academy. Lallathin has
teaching experience at the elementary level at Eastland Performance
Academy and at Northland Preparatory & Fitness Academy.
Lallathin earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio University and
his master’s degree from Ashland University.
“We are pleased to bring (Lallathin) on board,” Eisler said. “He
is a high-character person and has knowledge and experience using
data to drive instruction. He will be a nice addition to the elementary
and intermediate building staff.”
About the job, Lallathin stated, “I am grateful for the opportunity
to serve as the K-6 assistant principal at Madison-Plains. I am
looking forward to leading and growing the K-6 student body to academic
excellence. Lastly, I am excited to build relationships with
my staff and the community as a whole. We are ‘MP Strong’."
Lallathin received a two-year contract with a salary of $75,000.
In other hiring news, the district hired Courteney Francis as an
intervention specialist for sixth grade and Therese Schroeder as a
fifth-grade math and science teacher. Nathan Warner was named
head varsity boys’ basketball coach.
Sunflowers are in bloom in West Jefferson. The folks at Parsons Farm planted this field on Olmstead Road.
They ask that passersby enjoy the sunflowers and take pictures, but not pick them. They also caution motorists
to be careful so as not to cause accidents. Another field of flowers sits directly across the road from these.
