down. Everywhere I was surrounded by dark blue sky and the
almost pitch black ocean.
“Little boy, Asher!” I looked down into the sea. I then
blinked my eyes several times to better see the creature. As if
it were aware of my effort, the thing slowly became illuminated.
“Huh! A legendary fish?” I whispered, couldn’t believe my
eyes. What I was seeing looked as if it had come right from a
sacred statue of my village. It was such a huge fish covered with
colorful illuminated scales. Underneath the surface of the water,
its body loomed,more than a hundred times my size.
“You are right.” I heard the sound as if it was booming
in my head. The mouth of that legendary fish did move like a
movable puppet. The colorful fish was just a mirage, I figured. I
remembered hearing about it being one of the avatars of the
legendary fish.
“I’m Legend”, it said.
“Yes you are”, I replied almost involuntarily,
“No, I mean my name is Legend”, it said with a laugh.
With that, we started talking. He was, to my surprise,
interesting and comforting to converse with. From casual things
to serious stuff, I spoke nonstop, enjoying my conversation. Oh
how much I missed this! I vented all of my pent-up sorrow, and
slowly fell asleep with the joy of finally having found a companion.
I woke up the next day, confused. Yesterday’s events came
rushing to me. Looking around, Legend wasn’t there. Was it all
a dream?
