It’s Great to be
a Northside Eagle

Northside High School originally
opened in 1963 as the second
high school to be built in the city
of Warner Robins, according to
the school website. Their mission
it to produce high school
graduates who are college/
workforce ready and their vision
is to make every person in the
school successful.
“We are a unique family. We
love each other and we LOVE
Northside! There is so much
spirit and pride in being a
Northside Eagle!” described
head cheerleading coach and AP
Biology/Anatomy & Physiology
teacher, Maryann Fincher of
her school. This is her fourth
year teaching at Northside
High and her 16th year
coaching cheerleading. She is
accompanied by assistant coach
Jaeda Boyd.
The cheer squad is divided into
two teams, the varsity football
and varsity competition (there is
also a separate basketball cheer
squad as well) cheer squads.
This year’s varsity football
squad’s captains include Hannah
Thigpen, Zipporah Graham, and
Ceniah Arline and the varsity
competition squad’s captains are
Zipporah Graham, Ceniah Arline,
and Keanna Johnson.
This season’s routine contains
a myriad of feats including
standing tumbling, running
tumbling, basket tosses, elite
partner stunts, a pyramid,
and a dance portion and they
will be participating in six
competitions. The football cheer
squad practices twice a week
and the competition squad
holds practice every day. To be
a Northside cheerleader, one
must display “knowledge of
stunting, jumps, dance, sharp
motions, and some tumbling,”
according to Fincher. “These girls
are hard-working, enthusiastic,
and coach-able. They want to
be excellent cheerleaders that
represent Northside well and
show everyone their pride in
their school.”
The cheer squad’s mission is
“to increase spirit and love of
Northside and show everyone
why we love Northside,” Fincher
explained. They are rebuilding
this year, so their goals are to
improve in all areas.
And of course, their theme, “It’s
great to be a Northside Eagle!”
