night game against Rutland High
School. The home games will give
Rigby in particular, who is heading
into his second year as a starter, a
chance to get comfortable running
the offense under second-year
offensive coordinator Keith Gosse.
Rigby passed for almost 1,000 yards
and eight touchdowns during his
debut season (Rigby also rushed
for four touchdowns, displaying
his athleticism in the process).
The transfer of former Houston
County backup quarterback Dylan
Fromm, the 1-AAAAA player of
the year for Warner Robins High
School last season, sped up Rigby’s
development and now the Bears
have an experienced quarterback
starting this season.
A rising junior receiver, Harris led
the Bears with 19 receptions last
season despite spending the first
month of the season as the backup
quarterback, including a start against
Peach County. Harris amassed just
190 yards and one touchdown
reception but also displayed promise
with his speed and solid hands.
The Bears did not win a region game
or a game on the road last season,
their two victories coming against
Veterans High School 27-22 on Sept.
8 and 27-7 over visiting Spalding
High School two weeks later. The
Bears have six home games this
coming season (the September 14
meeting with Veterans is included)
including their region battles with
Valdosta High School to open region
play on October 5 and their annual
rivalry with Northside High School in
the season finale.
The 2018 season will be a tough road
for the Houston County Bears but if
there’s a football program that can
climb back to the top it’s this one.
