Why did you decide to be a fireman?
My dad became a volunteer fireman when I
was a kid and I’d ride along with him to calls.
That was what sparked my interest. As soon as
I was old enough I joined the same department
and started responding to calls with my dad.
I knew immediately that the fire service was
where I needed to be. I began working full time
as a fireman in 2009. Although we lost my dad
shortly after that, I know that he is watching
over me and I strive daily to make him proud.
How long have you been with the Clinton
Fire Department?
6 years.
Tell us about your family.
I grew up in Raymond with my parents and
older sister. My wife Madeline and I have one
son named Bowen.
What is the toughest thing you have
experienced in your job?
There is not really one thing that is necessarily
the toughest part. We usually see people at their
worst moments. The tragedies that usually stand
out are the ones involving children or somebody
you know.
Share some things you enjoy doing in your
spare time.
I enjoy fishing, camping and spending time with
my family.
What are three things on your bucket list?
Retire, travel the country in an RV, and see my
son grow into a successful and humble person.
Who is someone you admire and why?
My dad. We spent a lot of time together as I was
growing up and I also worked for him for a few
years. I realize everyday just how much he
passed down to me. The most important thing
he taught me was the importance of integrity
and honesty.
Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
I still plan to be with Clinton Fire Department
working to advance my career.
If you could give one piece of advice to a young
person, what would it be?
Don’t get caught up in what everybody around
you is doing. Seek your purpose from God and
pursue it. Leave all the other stuff alone. Enjoy
life…you only have one.
What is a favorite childhood memory?
I have two. I’ve always shared a love of fishing
with my dad and grandfather. Some of my fondest
memories were made with my Pap and my dad
in a fishing boat. My dad and I also spent a lot of
time together rebuilding my first vehicle.
What is the biggest mistake you think young
people make today?
I think they get so caught up in trying to fit in
and make others happy that they lose sight of
what their purpose is.
What is your favorite thing about the
City of Clinton?
Clinton is close to home and has the
convenience of a variety of shopping and
dining options, but still has a small hometown
atmosphere. The citizens are also very
supportive and appreciative of first responders.
