Polysafe flooring helps welcome new pupils
Approximately 1200m² of high
performance wood-effect safety flooring
from UK vinyl flooring manufacturer
Polyflor was recently selected for an
£8m new build school project, Newton
Leys Primary School & Nursery in Milton
Keynes.
High clarity timber effect Polysafe Wood
fx PUR safety flooring in the American
Oak design was used throughout the
school, in classrooms and around areas
where spillages may occur, such as in
kitchenettes and children’s sink areas.
Polysafe Wood fx PUR offers sustainable
wet slip resistance, achieving 36+ on the
Pendulum Wet Test with full
conformance to HSE Guidelines and the particle based safety flooring
standard EN 13845.
As a hardwearing commercial safety flooring covering, the Polysafe
Wood fx collection is designed to cope with the demands of busy
school environments where there are high levels of foot traffic.
Better acoustic design improves
performance
Good acoustic design in schools brings
positive educational outcomes, and the latest
decorative acoustic panelling system from
Icopal - Monarfloor® Absorption Panels –
will help to do just that; contributing to a
healthy sound environment by controlling
reverberant noise and complying with the
latest Building Regulations, without
compromising aesthetics.
Suitable for classrooms, canteens, sport halls and other areas
throughout a school campus and meeting the Department for
Education’s Building Bulletin 93 (BB93) regulations, Icopal’s
Monarfloor® Absorption Panels absorb high levels of sound energy
within a room.
The panels can be specified to partially cover existing walls or ceilings,
to create visual contrast, or enhance existing architectural features.
For complete design flexibility, the panels are available from stock in a
selection of standard sizes and three fabric finishes, in a large range of
colours.
Back to the drawing board!
In an ingenious
adaptation, an IT
training room in the
Alan Walters Building at
Birmingham University
features an SWG
moveable wall system
from Style, that has
been installed with the
sole purpose of
providing an occasional
white board. “The room benefits from ample natural light thanks to
a wall length window at the front, and the University didn’t want to
lose this,” explained Mike Fine, the director for Style in the midlands.
“However, they did need to find space for a white board.”
To complement the modern interior design of the room, a ‘pure
white’ moveable wall was deemed too stark and so a blend of two
different tones of brown create a stunning effect. Only the middle
section is a writable board where the lecturer can write notes, draw
diagrams and communicate with the students.
Expona flooring helps refurbished school hall
keep its traditional look
Wood effect luxury vinyl
tiles from Polyflor’s
Expona Design PUR
collection were the
perfect choice of flooring
for a school hall
refurbishment project at
Erskine Stewart’s Melville
Schools in Edinburgh.
315m² of Expona Design
PUR luxury vinyl tiles in the Walnut design were installed by Forever
Flooring of Broxburn, Mid Lothian at the independent school for girls
aged 12 to 17. The school hall needed to be refurbished, and as Expona
Design flooring was performing well elsewhere in the school, the
same luxury vinyl tile range was selected for this space.
Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools commented, “We needed a new
floor that would be in keeping with the traditional style of our hall
interior and have the look of real wood but would also be durable and
easy to maintain. Our Expona Design flooring looks great and delivers
on performance.”
Interface helps create nature-inspired school
Situated in the heart of the Forest of Dean, St White’s Primary School wanted to draw on the
surrounding landscape to create a nature infused space that would re-connect pupils with
the outdoors. The new building combines outdoor play areas and views out onto the forest,
with nature inspired fixtures and fittings such as modular flooring from Interface’s
collections.
In the educational environment specifically, research from Wells & Evans (2003) shows that
increased contact with nature can dramatically boost young people’s attention capacity,
meaning they are more focused in the classroom and better able to concentrate.
Interface’s Human Nature collection, which is inspired by the tactile textures found in the
most elemental of floor coverings - forest floors, grassy fields and pebbled garden paths,
was the perfect biophilic flooring for this project.
