Product News Concord cuts lighting energy consumption The University of Southampton has cut its energy bills by up to 20% at its Avenue campus by switching to energy efficient LED luminaires from Concord. As part of the Feilo Sylvania company, Concord has provided a bespoke lighting solution featuring a range of energy efficient, high performance luminaires, suited for the University’s varied requirements. 75 off Concord Unity direct / indirect luminaires were utilised extensively in library study areas and a further 200 were installed in the lecture theatres and circulation spaces within the University’s Avenue campus to deliver optimum visual conditions for the students. The University of Southampton has a reputation for sustainability and aims to embed sustainability in all of its work. The switch to Concord’s LED lighting has helped the university reduce its electricity consumption and reach its energy saving ambitions. www.concord-lighting.com Twinfix go the extra mile The Early Years section of the Gaer Primary School in Newport has recently benefited from two new additions – polycarbonate glazed, aluminium-framed canopies of 21.5 and 10 metre runs that were designed, manufactured and installed by Twinfix Limited. They are proving to be invaluable playing and learning spaces for the children – enabling them to enjoy being outside whatever the weather. Aluminium is an ideal choice for a canopy as it will keep its good looks for years to come. These structures were glazed with tough 25mm clear multiwall polycarbonate glazed into our Multi-Link roof glazing panels. These are classified as Non-Fragile to the recommended ACR[M]001:2014 drop test. All products are UK manufactured and covered by DANLERS 5 year warranty. www.danlers.co.uk Offsite construction puts school on fast-track to success The Kingspan TEK Building System of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) have been used to create the building envelope of a contemporary, energy efficient sports hall and classroom block at Swavesey Village College, South Cambridgeshire. The panels arrived onsite pre-cut to the project’s exact specifications. This bespoke approach almost eradicated onsite alterations and, combined with the panelised system construction, allowed the installation team to establish a fast and predictable installation programme. The highly insulated core of the 142 mm thick Kingspan TEK Building System installed at the school can deliver U-values of 0.20 W/m2.K or better, whilst the OSB/3 facing of the panels and unique jointing system help to minimise unnecessary air loss.
