Style Folsom and El Dorado Hills; October 2018

In this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards contest, we had more voters than ever (90,000+ to be exact). Starting on page 51, read all about the top dogs—whose goods and services run the gamut from food to finance—and let it be a reminder of just how many reputable businesses our region boasts. There’s plenty more in the pages that follow, including “8 Ways to Reduce Your Breast Cancer Risk” on page 38, a roundup of local ways to celebrate Halloween on page 20, and an easy-to-follow itinerary for “A Perfect Day in Apple Hill” on page 19. Enjoy the issue, and remember to congratulate and support some of the winners mentioned in this month’s mag. Cheers!

Lucille’s Coffee Hops & Vine // Much to the glee of coffee connoisseurs, Folsom’s
been hit with a new caffeine getaway. Similar to European cafés, Lucille’s not only specializes in the thirdwave
movement of artisanal coffee but also serves up local beers and fine wines with a full breakfast and
lunch menu. Needing some sustenance, I headed over to meet a friend (who has already become a regular).
Filled with plush chairs, the aromas of freshly ground coffee, and indie rock pumping through the speakers,
I instantly discovered why people come in to grab a quick coffee and end up staying for hours. Sensing my
indecisiveness as I looked over the vast menu, my friend recommended the Turkey & Provolone Sandwich with
a side of their scratch-made Macaroni Salad. Toasted on a flaky croissant bun and stuffed with thinly sliced
turkey, provolone cheese, fresh tomatoes, and lettuce—with a slathering of roasted red pepper aioli—this was
a classic sub with a mouthwatering twist. Paired alongside a pint of Boochcraft’s Grapefruit Hibiscus Heather,
a kombucha/ale hybrid that exploded with the refreshing taste of grapefruit, I was more than content with
my picks and have since followed in my friend’s footsteps and become a Lucille’s regular too. 25055 Blue
