Tour the State Capitol Building, see the museums of art & history, and drive through the Victorian neighborhood of Oakwood. After lunch, motor south through Croatan National Forest to the ocean at Atlantic Beach and your waterfront hotel for two nights. Overnight (2) Atlantic Beach, NC DAY 3 | Beaufort Tour & Cruise (B, L) Today, explore the inner banks town of Beaufort, established in 1709. Visit the North Carolina Maritime Museum, showcasing North Carolina's cultural heritage. Shop along historic Front Street, with its Fudge Factory and General Store. See Beaufort Historic Site and the 1700's Old Burying Grounds among the oaks with Spanish moss. This afternoon, enjoy your cruise along the inner banks, past charming old homes, working waterfronts, and possibly see dolphins and wild horses along Shackleford Banks. DAY 4 | Atlantic Beach To Ocracoke Island/ Ocracoke Historical tour (B, D) At Cedar Island, ferry across the Pamlico Sound to colorful Ocracoke Island. The town of Ocracoke has the feel of a New England village, but with a semitropical air! Settle in, then partake in an afternoon historic tour. Hear about the island's pirate and WWII history, harrowing hurricanes, and shipwrecks. This evening enjoy a delicious seafood dinner (the areas specialty is its crab cakes and Hatteras clam chowder). Overnight Ocracoke Island, NC DAY 5 | Ocracoke Island To Nags Head/Cape Hatteras Lighthouse/Roanoke Island/Wright Brothers National Memorial/Beachfront Hotel (B, L) Take the short ferry to Hatteras and coach past Buxton Woods, a forest of oaks, beeches, and palmettos. Towering above the dunes is candy-striped Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest brick lighthouse in the country. Cross over to Roanoke Island for a visit to Fort Raleigh, home of the first English settlement in the New World. This was the town founded by Sir Walter Raleigh, pre-dating both Jamestown and Plymouth. Then, explore the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, the site of their first powered flight in 1903. Overnight (2) Nags Head, NC DAY 6 | Day Trip to Corolla with Jeep Safari to Search for Wild Horses/Whalehead Club/Currituck Beach Lighthouse (B, D) This morning, head north up the narrow strand to the historic town of Corolla. Embark on an off-road nature safari in specially designed vehicles as we search for wild horses, sea birds and foxes along the shore. This afternoon, tour Whalehead Club, a beautifully restored 1920s Art Nouveau style residence and also see the Currituck Beach Lighthouse & Museum. Return to your hotel and relax or take an optional scenic flightseeing trip over the area. Tonight, we will all meet for our Farewell Dinner at a fine local restaurant. DAY 7 | Nags Head To Norfolk/Nauticus Maritime Museum/Fly Home (B) Coach north to Norfolk, the largest U.S. Naval Base and home to the Atlantic fleet. Visit the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial & Tomb. Later, explore Nauticus, a maritime-themed museum located on the downtown waterfront. GEORGIA ON MY MIND 8 DAYS Sept. 30 - Oct. 7, 2019 Courtesy of Road To Tara Museum Georgia, it’s a state of mind for Southern hospitality, great food and the spirit of Scarlet O’Hara that is still alive in the deep south. DAY 1 | Travel Day Board your “Georgia on My Mind” flight on your way to the deep south to Savannah. This evening you’re free to explore the historic district, which is very close to the hotel, with numerous shops and restaurants. Overnight (3) Savannah, GA DAY 2 | Old Town Savannah Trolley Tour Hop-on, Hopoff Ticket/Prohibition Museum/Owens Thomas House (B, D) This morning ride on the Old Town Savannah Trolley for a historical overlook of Savannah’s Beautiful Historic District. You’ll have a hop-on, hop-off ticket which will allow you to select the attractions that you want to see most. Included will be admission to the Prohibition Museum and the Owens Thomas House. Tonight you’re in for a real treat when you enjoy dinner at none other than Paula Dean’s Lady and Son’s Restaurant. DAY 3 | Tybee Island Science Center with Beach Walk/ Dolphin Cruise/Tybee Island Light House/Dinner at Pirate’s House (B, D) An interesting day awaits – an authentic coastal experience on Tybee Island. Visit the Tybee Island Marine Science Center where their mission is to rehabilitate marine animals along with preserving Georgia’s coastal natural resources. A special treat is a beach walk with a marine biologist to point out everything from how tides work to indigenous coastal animals. This afternoon, take a dolphin cruise where you’ll see them swim around the boat in their natural habitat. This evening spend your last night in town at one of Savannah’s oldest restaurants – the Pirate’s House. DAY 4 | Antebellum Trail/Hay House/Coca Cola Museum (B, BL, LD) Bid Savannah a fond farewell as you make your way up the Antebellum Trail to Atlanta. Tour the Hay House which is a stunning historical landmark built in 1859 as an Italian Renaissance Revival Style home. Enjoy a box lunch at this beautiful home and feel like aristocracy. Then, make your way to Atlanta where you’ll take a nostalgic look at Coca Cola's past at the World of Coca Cola Museum. This evening, step into the South of days gone by when you enjoy a screening of “Gone with the Wind.” Rhett and Scarlet and Southern life will delight in this epic film. Overnight (4) Atlanta, GA DAY 5 | Atlanta City Tour/Cyclorama/Margaret Mitchell House/Road to Tara Museum/Stately Oaks Plantation/Dinner in a Schoolhouse/Skywheel Atlanta (B, D) A great day of sightseeing awaits you today. Start off with a historical city tour with a local expert guide to point out the highlights of the south’s largest metropolitan city. Next, visit Cyclorama, a 42 foot high by 158 foot long painting of the Battle of Atlanta. Then, tour the Margaret Mitchell House where it all got started on Peachtree Street in a tiny little apartment, “the dump.” This afternoon travel to Stately Oaks Plantation where Margaret Mitchell’s grandparents lived and called this area “Tara.” Then, see the unique Road to Tara Museum for a behind the scenes look of the making of the movie "Gone with the Wind." Enjoy an authentic Southern buffet dinner in an old schoolhouse before heading back to Atlanta. This evening “you can see Atlanta from here” when you board Skywheel Atlanta, towering nearly 20 stories above Centennial Park with breathtaking panoramic views. DAY 6 | CNN Tour/Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum/Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park/Stone Mountain Park (B) Start off with a tour of CNN Center and get a behindthe-scenes look at how the news really works. Then, head over to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum to get a glimpse of his presidency. Learn about the man that made his mark around the world, Martin Luther King, Jr., when you visit Auburn Avenue, Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Visitors Center. This afternoon head east to Stone Mountain Park, often referred to as the 8th Wonder of the World. It’s the largest high-relief sculpture, even larger than Mount Rushmore! DAY 7 | FDR Little White House/Callaway Gardens (B, LD) Today visit Warm Springs, GA, home to “The Little Whitehouse” of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The natural springs here seemed to strengthen and soothe him during his bout with polio during his presidency. Also this afternoon visit Callaway Gardens, over 12,000 acres of woodlands, lakes and gardens. DAY 8 | Fly Home (B) Does Scarlett still live in the deep south? Well, it’s up to you to decide but we think she’s alive and well.
