East Slovakian leader in Fleckvieh breeding
AGRO-LENT s.r.o
Eastern Slovakia is known not only for the famous Šariš beer, but also for stable and well developed
Fleckvieh breeding. In the village of Maly Šariš, just a few kilometers from the village of Vel‘ký
Šariš, where the mentioned brewery is located, the company AGRO-LENT, s.r.o, is running the farm
which is known as the one of the leading breeders of Fleckvieh farms throughout Slovakia.
The company originated from the
former state property Agroanim
š.p., which used to operate 2 farms
in Vel‘ký Šariš and Malý Šariš. After
the privatization of the state enterprise
in the years 2000 and 2010 the
new owners decided, that operating
two farms not far from each other is
economically disadvantageous and
moved the milk production completely
to the farm in Maly Šariš, where
they also heavily invested in the reconstruction
of the barn for productive
dairy cows with a capacity of
200 heads. The silage bunkers have
also undergone major reconstruction,
which led to significant improvement
of the silage quality.
After several years of optimizing
and effective improvement of the
operations, the cattle population
was stabilized at 500 heads, of
which 260 are milking cows. In
addition to cattle breeding, AG-
RO-LENT s.r.o also runs a sheep
farm, owning a herd of 320 Cigája
sheep, with an annual cheese production
of 7.5 tons.
The company is operating on a total
of 1.276 ha of agricultural land,
of which arable land is 966 ha and
meadows and pastures are 310
ha. The main crops are:
