The specialty of this company is the
housing of cows on deep litter, on
straw, which gives the cows sufficient
comfort not only in the calving
pens, but also in the productive part
of the barn. The dairy farm is therefore
also a major producer of cow
dung that is more and more scarce.
After long-term observation they
realized, that calving of heifers at
the age of 26-27 months is the best
in order to reach the optimal weight
and the best performance on 1 st lactation.
As the herd is permanently reaching
excellent reproduction parameters
(for the second time it has
been declared as the company
with the best reproduction results
in East Slovakia), they can afford
to sell part of the pregnant heifers.
Recently they sold 78 pregnant
heifers, that have been exported
to Russia and Turkey.
The farm has a closed turnover of
the herd and average culling rate
is under the conrolled level of 26
percent.
The calves are drinking whole native
milk from the mothers through a
milk taxi until 14 days of age and are
housed in the outer boxes. After 14
days, they are fed with milk replacer,
the weaning ends at the age of
3 months.
In long term plans AGRO-LENT
s.r.o. management does not consider
to extend the number of cows,
rather they intend to improve the
quality and make the production
more efficient. They want to change
the old fish bone milking parlor to a
new one and the investment for a
modern mixing wagon is already included
in their financial plan.
What is mostly troubling the management,
is too much state administrative
bureaucracy from municipal
and state officials and volatile
prices of the milk. A big challenge
for the coming years is the lack of
quality labour. To find people, who

above-average conditions offered by
the company, they are permanently
looking for good employees.
The AGRO-LENT s.r.o. has a clear
picture and vision about the future
direction and is trying to follow this
vision on day-to-day basis. Therefore,
there is no doubt, that this company
today and in the future is one
of the biggest producers of milk in
Eastern Slovakia.
