Silent Rooms
Klaus Theo Brenner / Ulrich Wüst / Dirk Biermann
In this book, the subject of “silent rooms”—or still lifes—is discussed
with reference to historical city photographs from the period around
1900, photographs of turn-of-the-century Berlin taken by Ulrich Wüst,
and current project panoramas and collages by the Büro Klaus Theo
Brenner—Stadt architektur. For the purposes of Silent Rooms, these
works are understood in the context of an artistic interpretation of
urban space that views them as a theatrical situation in the relationship
between urban architecture and city-dwellers. The concept of
“silent rooms” refers to the pictorial representation of urban spaces
that, beyond any fashionable marketing trends, are the focus of our
perception and give us cause to think about the quality of modern
urban architecture. Klaus Theo Brenner’s experimentally presented
designs document the many different ways in which the scenery of
silent rooms has closed the circle linking the historical view of the
city with current planning strategies.
