Pasadena’s Billy Butchkavitz designed and produced his 20th
consecutive HBO Emmy Party Sept. 17 at the Pacific Design Center in
West Hollywood. With his production team of siblings Brian and Peggy
Butchkavitz, he transformed the courtyard into an enormous garden
inspired by the original: the Garden of Eden. They decked trellises with
pink peonies, accenting them with images of trees, flowers, insects
and serpents in animated projections, carpeting, pillows and table
accessories. The focal point was a giant tree with snakes for branches,
overlooking the VIP area… Inspiring Pasadena cancer survivor
Elizabeth Ruznak Arizmendi and Dr. Richard Friedman were honored
at the American Cancer Society’s 10th annual San Gabriel Valley
Hope Gala on Aug. 25. The festive evening, dubbed “Hot Havana
Night,” was held at a private La Cañada Flintridge estate, where the
gala chair, Sindee Riboli, oversaw a tropics-inspired dinner by Chef
Claud Beltran, and retired Judge Lance Ito, an event host, sported a
jaunty Cuban-style hat with unlit Cuban cigars poking out of his breast
pocket.
