RCMP REPORT
Stolen vehicle recovered in Humboldt, one male
arrested and charged
On October 10, 2018 Humboldt RCMP received a complaint
of a theft of fuel from a farm yard in the RM of St. Peter. Over
the following 24-hour period, Humboldt RCMP received several
additional complaints of thefts and break and enters in the
surrounding rural area. The next day, at approximately 10:30
a.m., Humboldt RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Highway 20
north of Humboldt, with a vehicle that was believed to be related
to the investigations. As an officer approached the truck, the
driver fled the scene. The officer was not injured during this
incident, and RCMP did not pursue the vehicle for public safety
reasons. Later, the suspect’s vehicle was located abandoned in
a wooded area in south Humboldt. The truck was confirmed to
be stolen out of Raymore.
RCMP located the male suspect on the 200 block of 10th
street, a foot pursuit ensued and officers took the male suspect
into custody nearby at approximately 2 pm on October 11.
28-year-old Braeden Cole Dosch, of Annaheim, was arrested
and remanded into custody. Dosch made his first appearance
in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Friday, October 12, 2018. He
is facing the following charges as a result of this investigation:
possession of Stolen Property Over $5000; Break, Enter and
Theft- Residence; Theft Under $5000; Mischief Over $5000;
and Resisting Arrest/Obstruction (2 counts).No injuries were
reported during these events.
The Humboldt RCMP thank the rural and urban communities
for their assistance in reporting suspicious activity, and
in turn, helping solving these crimes. The Humboldt RCMP
believe that the majority of the rural thefts in our RMs over the
past 2-3 days are related, however, the investigation is ongoing.
Operation Impact 2018
Last Mountain Times • Monday, October 15, 2018 • lmtimes.ca
It was another busy Thanksgiving long weekend for the
RCMP in the Province of Saskatchewan. Several members
from various Detachments, Traffic Services and specialized
sections gave their time to ensure the roadways were safe by
participating in Operation Impact. Unfortunately, we had a
fatal collision near Maple Creek and members still responded
to several calls for service throughout the Province.
Here’s a “snapshot” of some of the work RCMP members
completed on the long weekend to enhance road safety.
Check stops were conducted on some of the provinces busiest
areas such as; Hwy 2 North of Moose Jaw, Hwy 6 within
the town of Southey, near Fillmore Detachment on Hwy 33,
Hwy 39 outside of Estevan, and again on Hwy 39 near Weyburn
along with various other patrols/ road safety initiatives
throughout the Province.
Although every RCMP Detachment and municipal police
service participated we only have statistics for Combined
Traffic Services Section (CTSS). They are: 5 alcohol-impaired
charges; 1 drug-impaired charge; 2 roadside suspensions; 546
speeding tickets; 143 Other Moving and Other Non-Moving
tickets (ie: follow too close, cross solid line, drive unregistered
vehicle, etc.); 9 cellphone use tickets; 19 seatbelt tickets issued,
for a total of 723 Charges. Also: 456 Written Warnings were
issued, and 56 Vehicle Inspection Notices were issued.
Incidents of note: a Vehicle was stopped for Speeding along
Hwy 1 west of White City at 178 km/hr in a 110km/hr zone.
After investigation, the driver was charged with impaired
driving. A vehicle was stopped after an Automated Licence
Plate Reader equipped vehicle received a hit on a vehicle, after
investigation the driver was deemed to be under the influence
of Drugs (pharmaceutical) and charged. A vehicle was stopped
for failing to come to a complete halt at a stop sign, after investigation
the driver was charged with impaired driving.
“Impaired driving (by alcohol and drug) continues to be an
issue on the roadways in Saskatchewan.,” said Sgt. Conrad
Logan “F” Division Traffic Services Ops NCO. “We encourage
anyone who is consuming alcohol or a drug to plan ahead and
not operate any motorized vehicle.”
ATM theft attempted
Watrous RCMP Detachment members are investigating the
attempted theft or break-in of the Automated Teller Machine
at the Nokomis branch of the Affinity Credit. The incident
occurred over the past long weekend. The ATM machine was
badly damaged, however the thieves did not gain entry to the
machine, or remove it from the building. Customers at the
Nokomis Credit Union were without ATM service for most of
last week, while the ATM machine was being replaced and the
damage to the building repaired. Anyone with information
about the incident is asked to contact the Watrous RCMP at
306-946-3316 or Saskatchewan CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-
8477.
Arrest of escaped inmates
On October 4, 2018 just after 2pm a vehicle was reported
stolen in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The suspects were believed
to be two serving inmates of the White Spruce Correctional
Centre who were outside the facility on a work crew. Christian
Hagel, 20 years old, of Regina, and Dale Churchill, 25 years
old, of Wainwright, Alberta were later arrested and remanded
into custody in Regina.
SPORTS
Young talent abounds in the NHL
If somehow the draft and eligibility rules were rewritten,
a National Hockey League team of players 21 and
under could be formed that might run away with the
Stanley Cup.
The young talent around the NHL is staggering. And
they’re from all over the world — Finland, Russia, Sweden,
Switzerland, the United States and, of course Canada,
where the best player in the world, and the leader
of this mythical 21-and-under squad, Connor McDavid,
learned the game.
The Wayne Gretzky trade-to-L.A influence is really
starting to show up, with some of the world’s best
players having U.S. addresses. Arizona native Auston
Matthews of the Maple Leafs leads the way — already a
superstar just a notch or two below McDavid. He is one
of two Leafs in this 21-and-under group, with Canadian
Mitchell Marner joining Matthews for a potent 1-2
punch in Toronto.
The team with the most stars in this 21-and-under
group is the Arizona Coyotes, which may bode well for
future success for this long-suffering franchise. Forwards
Clayton Keller, 20, and Christian Fischer, 21, join
20-year-old defenceman Jacob Chychrun on this young
squad. All three were born in the U.S. but Chychrun —
whose father played in the NHL, as did his uncle, Luke
Richardson — has Canadian connections.
Montreal Canadiens drafted an 18-year-old from
Finland named Jesperi Kotkaniemi, who picked up an
assist in his first game Oct. 3 and thus became the first
NHL player born in 2000 or later to record a point. Ah,
kids.
This year’s No. 1 draft pick, Rasmus Dahlin, is an
18-year-old from Sweden. Said to possess skills similar
to those of McDavid, Dahlin leads a group of young
stars on the blue line that includes Zach Werenski, 21
(U.S.), Ivan Provorov, 21 (Russia), Charley McAvoy,
20 (U.S.), Mikhail Sergachev, 20 (Russia) and Noah
Hanifin, 21 (U.S.). Where are all the young Canadian
defencemen?
Up front, the young talent behind McDavid, Matthews
and Marner is immense — Patrik Laine, 20 (Finland),
Sebastian Aho, 21 (Finland), Nico Hischier, 19 (Switzerland),
Travis Konecny, 21 (Canada), Casey Mittlestadt,
20 (U.S.), Brock Boeser, 21 (U.S.) and Elias Pettersson,
19 (Sweden).
Give any coach those players and he wouldn’t lose too
many games. Problem is, there are no 21-and-under
goalies currently in the NHL, and ‘experience’ is always
valuable in the playoffs. But this is just a mythical
group. The point is, the NHL’s future is certainly bright.
Dwight Perry of the Seattle Times: “The Cavaliers
— despite the departure of LeBron James — are
still the team to beat in the Eastern Conference, Cleveland
centre Tristan Thompson told reporters. Oddsmakers
immediately made Thompson the morning-line
favourite for first NBA player to get drug-tested this
season.”
Brad Rock of the Deseret News: “Cleveland
forward Tristan Thompson says the LeBron-less Cavs
are still four-time conference champs and ‘until you
take us down from that, teams ain’t got much to say.’
Except maybe this: The Browns aren’t the worst team in
Cleveland anymore.”
Bob Molinaro of pilotonline.com (Hampton,
FROM THE
SIDELINES
BRUCE PENTON
Va.): “Was Orioles manager Buck
Showalter fired? Or was he granted
clemency?”
Norman Chad of the Washington
Post, on his thoughts on
last year’s Vegas Golden Knights,
as they approached their first NHL
season: “I would’ve written that Sin
City needs the NHL like Vatican City
needs a tattoo parlor.”
Chad again: “Given a choice between a burlesque
show and a Golden Knights-Blue Jackets game, I believe
most red-blooded, steak-eating American male tourists
would choose the strip tease before the slap shot.” (He
then added ‘Maybe I was wrong.’)
