Preschool - 6th Grade Information

Dear Families,
The mission statement of Lake Center Christian School states, “assisting Christian families and their churches in
lifelong learning and service to Christ.” I am so thankful that we had the opportunity to honor some of the Pastors
of those churches this week. Truly, raising children in the way they should go is a partnership between home,
school, and church.
A few reminders;
• Fall is here! It is time for hay rides, apple cider, and pumpkin spice lattes. It is also time for sweatshirts, hats,
and warm socks. As the weather changes, please plan accordingly.
• Shorts can still be worn through the end of this month. Just a reminder students will be going outside for
recess, unless it is raining.
• If your child is missing anything , please check the lost and found. It is filling up fast!
• October 19 th is a half day. There is after school care available; however, we do need to know who will be attending.
Please contact Mrs. Stock, if your child will be staying.
• Picture retakes are October 23 rd .
• Students have started their collection for World Vision in Grades 2-6. Our goal is to teach them the joy of
serving, and the love of God’s people.
“Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do, but how much love we put into what we do,” Mother Theresa.
I pray for special moments with your children this week; ones of laughter and joy. I pray for suitcases full of
wonderful memories that they can take with them wherever they go in life.

Mini-Term - March 18 - 22, 2019 - LAST DAY TO MAKE A CHANGE IS TODAY, Monday, October 15.
Mini-term assignments have been posted. Great effort was made to place students in their top choice for miniterm
based on their top three choices, class seniority, and order in which applications were received. Please
discuss the mini-term with your student, review the cost of your student’s assigned mini-term and the dates of
the mini-term. Remember that selections cannot be changed after October 15 th . Charges for mini-term selections
will be billed to the student’s Renweb Account in five (5) monthly installments. These charges are non-refundable.
Feel free to give Mr. Knori a call or an email, if you have questions or would like to request a change.
Calling all Junior High/High School girls who are interested in cheerleading this coming season...
We will have practice beginning the week of October 22 nd after school from
3:00-4:15 PM. Junior High girls will meet with Coach Joseph in the gymnasium
on Monday, October 22 nd and Tuesday, October 23 rd . High School girls will
meet in the gymnasium with Coach Ickes on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday,
October 22 nd - October 24 th . Please contact Coach Joseph or Coach Ickes

Lake Center is accepting applications for a Part-Time Custodial Position.
This position will be cleaning classrooms after 4:00 PM Monday through
Friday, three (3) hours per night, during the school year. Please fill out and
submit the Classified Application (also found on the LCCS Website under
About Us) and submit the application to Mrs. Sommers.
Choral Teacher Position: Please encourage anyone who may be qualified and interested to become our new
Choir Director, please go here to submit an application.
Lake Center Christian School is looking for a paraprofessional, to assist a student with special needs. We would
prefer a minimum of 1 year previous experience with students with special needs. Please submit your LCCS
application to Cheryl Sommers
Lake Center Christian School is also looking for individuals interested in serving as substitute paraprofessionals.
Substitute paraprofessionals will be contacted on an as-needed basis to cover absences by LCCS part-time
and full-time paraprofessionals. Please submit your LCCS application to Cheryl Sommers.
School picture packets are being sent home with students today. Class composites will not be
included in the packets. They had to be reordered. The Retakes will take place in the Cafenasium

ACT Prep - The University of Akron is hosting an ACT Prep Course at
the Akron University Campus.
Dates: October 30 - November 27
Time: Tuesdays 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Fee: $159

The next ACT test is Saturday, December 8 th . Please register for this test by November 2 nd . This is the last testing
option available to receive scores to qualify for CCP classes for next school year. Register online at actstudent.org

Elementary Guidance Office News
LITTLE KIDS, BIG FEELINGS: This workshop will equip
children (ages 5-10) and their parents with tools to manage stress and
anxiety. This workshop will be offered on Saturday, October 20, from
1:00 - 4:00 PM at Lake Center Christian School in the Library. During
the last hour of the workshop, a parent seminar will be offered while
students are given the opportunity to practice their newly-learned skills.
Student participants will work in a group setting to learn about what
makes them stressed or anxious, what Scripture says about worry and
anxiety, and how to find hope in God in the midst of overwhelming
events and emotions. Children will leave with numerous practical strategies
to use to help decrease stress and manage anxiety. This workshop is designed to be interactive and practical,
and participants will learn fun and creative ways to get some relief from life’s stressors.
Space is limited to 20 children. Cost is $35 per child, including up to two parents/guardians. Additional children
may attend for $20.

Sixth Grade Purity Curriculum begins on October 26
Lake Center Christian School has a Board-Approved Purity Curriculum, which is
integrated into the Bible classes at each grade level. Starting October 26 th , the topic
of purity will be discussed with the 6 th -graders approximately once a week for 6
weeks. The students will be separated by gender for these lessons. Mrs. Keene, our
Elementary Counselor, will be facilitating the girls’ lessons with the help of the 6 th -
grade teachers, and the boys’ lessons will be facilitated by Mr. Thomas Hersman, 7 th -
and 8 th -grade Bible teacher. If you have any questions regarding the purity curriculum, please feel free to contact
Mrs. Keene. We are looking forward to diving into this important topic together!

Pastor Appreciation: Thursday, October 11, 2018
Thank you to the Pastors and to our families for encouraging your
Pastor to attend our Pastors’ Appreciation Breakfast. We had 49
pastors attend. We had 36 churches represented out of the 139
churches that our student body attends. Congratulations to Brett
White from Akron Bible Church who won the basket and to Bruce
Roth from St. Stephen Lutheran for winning the gift card.
Thanks to the PTF parents who helped with the decorations,
serving, and clean up. A special thank you to Kara Kirkpatrick for
organizing this event for our Pastors.
LCCS is sponsoring six students from India this year with
our World Vision partnership. There will be a variety of
opportunities this year to learn more about the people
of India, as we sponsor these students and glean a better
understanding of how we can share God’s love across the world.
Operation Christmas Child
Don’t forget to be looking for items to stuff those shoe boxes over the next few weeks.
This is another great way to share God’s love and the message of Christmas with people
around the world. The boxes are due in early November so that they may make it to the

Acme Receipts: This program HAS BEGUN and runs through
December 28, 2018. The Community Cash Back program earns
easy dollars for our school every time you shop. Save those receipts
and turn them into the containers in hallways. We brought
in $118.30 last year.

VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER
The Lady Tigers put together a great week on the field by defeating Rootstown, 3-2 on Senior Night and
then by defeating Canton McKinley, 1-0 at the Bulldogs’ home field. Emma Stalter, Elise Gambol, and
Kaydri Sommers (2) scored the goals for the Tigers. TONIGHT, The ladies will open up
tournament play on Monday, October 15, in an OHSAA Sectional Semifinal match up at Canton Central
Catholic at 7:00 PM
• Week Results: Rootstown Rovers (W, 3-2), McKinley Bulldogs (W, 1-0)
VARSITY BOYS SOCCER
The Tigers picked up two quality wins early in the week against Rootstown on Senior Night, 4-1, and
also at Cloverleaf, 4-0. The Tigers also ended up with a tie against Central Catholic, 1-1. Christian Zavarelli
had a career-night by scoring 4 goals against Rootstown on Senior Night. The Tigers will play their
OHSAA Sectional Final game against the winner of the East Palestine/Leetonia match up on Saturday,
October 20, set to be played at LCCS at 3:00 PM.

VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY
The Tigers completed their regular season by competing in the PTC Championships at the Randolph

took the Pirates into the 5 th set, but came up just short in what was a great showing by the team. The
