HOW DO I CHOOSE SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2018
OHBELOVEDONE.COM
what do you want to be when you grow up?
Some people have
known the answer to
that question since
they were three years
old, but many have
absolutely no idea.
Almost from the time
we enter high school,
and especially
beginning junior year,
college decisions
begin to hang over
you. It seems like
every corner you turn
someone else is asking
“where are you going…
what are you majoring
in?” And, if you’re
anything like me or
millions of other
college students across
the world, you look at
yourself and say what
should I do, am I even
good enough at
anything to major in
it?
FIRST,
pray.
God cares more about
what your major
should be than you do
because He is going to
use your college
experience to affect
the rest of your life.
When you ask Him
for wisdom – to reveal
to you what choices
you should make – He
is going to honor your
request (perhaps not it
the time or the way
you were expecting,
but He will).
SECOND,
it helps to take stock of
what you enjoy and what
you’re good at. Highschool
experiences and even an
evaluation of your grades
could help with this.
Example: I really like
sports, and I’ve played
them all through high
school. I also do really well
in my Bible classes and
enjoy learning about the
subject matter. Maybe I’m
not good enough to be on a
collegiate team (although it
never hurts to try out), but I
might think about studying
sports management.
Specifically, maybe
coaching sounds more
interesting than being in
media relations. Coaching
might also go well with a
minor in biblical
counseling!
